Jaguar is all set to take the lid off the production-spec version of the Electric GT prototype later this month.
Jaguar’s announcement of turning into a fully EV-focussed brand last year was polarising to say the least. What made it even more controversial was the advertorial campaign which had barely anything to do with cars, EVs or mobility itself. Nevertheless, the British marque remains steadfast in its commitment to become a next generation luxury EV manufacturer.
In a recent teaser, Jaguar has teased its upcoming Electric GT being tested and pushed to its limits in harsh winter conditions. Expected to go into production later this year, the 4-door coupe saloon is seen sliding on snow and a frozen lake around Arjeplog near Arctic Circle in Sweden, where temperatures can plunge to as low as –40 degree celsius.

Jaguar says the winter testing programme is aimed at validating all major vehicle systems ahead of the start of production. The automaker is combining extensive virtual simulations and laboratory-based rig testing with real-world road evaluations, making it one of the most thorough development programmes ever undertaken by the brand. Jaguar has used more than 150 prototypes of the electric car for the purpose of testing this car, ahead of its unveiling this month.
Cold-weather testing is also central to fine-tuning the car’s driving dynamics. Engineers are using icy and snow-covered surfaces to calibrate the four-door GT’s drive modes, focusing on predictable handling, seamless power delivery and overall ride comfort — key attributes for a high-performance electric luxury model. As part of the development programme, Jaguar engineers are tuning control systems of electric propulsion and chassis technologies to deliver dynamics, performance and comfort true to the brand’s legacy.

Based on the Type 00 Concept previewed a few months ago, the Jaguar Electric GT prototype in the video is rolling on 23-inch winter tyres. Although Jaguar is yet to confirm the exact motor and battery specifications for the upcoming vehicle, the Electric GT is said to churn out over 1,000 horses, which will make it the most powerful Jaguar road car ever made.

The car is said to feature a tri-motor setup paired with an all-wheel-drive technology. For superior dynamics, the Electric GT will come equipped with torque vectoring, all-wheel steering, bespoke 23-inch winter tyres, dynamic air suspension, and active twin-valve dampers.
