Max Verstappen continued his dominant form, romping to a 9th consecutive win at his home Dutch GP in Zandvoort. With this victory, the reigning two-time world champion has now joined the elite company of Alberto Ascari and Sebastian Vettel as the only drivers to win 9 races in a row.
The race itself was action-packed, with rain throwing strategy into chaos in the closing laps. Verstappen masterfully controlled the changing conditions to take the chequered flag ahead of a charging Fernando Alonso. The Spaniard produced a captivating drive from P5 on the grid to finish an excellent P2, hustling Verstappen at times before finally relinquishing the lead. Alonso skillfully held off Sergio Perez in the other Red Bull to claim a podium for Aston Martin.
Perez endured a disappointing outing, also receiving a penalty for speeding in the pit lane. This allowed Pierre Gasly to claim the final podium spot for Alpine after a combative performance. Gasly held off the Ferrari of Carlos Sainz Jr, who drove robustly to P5 ahead of 7-time champion Lewis Hamilton in P6 for Mercedes. Further back, Lando Norris claimed P7 to continue his impressive season for McLaren. Alexander Albon was the star of the day in P8, leading the midfield charge for Williams ahead of McLaren's Oscar Piastri. Esteban Ocon rounded out the top ten for Alpine with a solid drive.
After the leaders, Aston Martin's Lance Stroll continued to disappoint in P11 as he was thoroughly outperformed once again by veteran teammate Alonso. Nico Hulkenberg capitalised on the wet conditions to grab P12 for Haas ahead of Kevin Magnussen, as both drivers were recently confirmed to remain with the team next season.
Williams driver Logan Sargent was the first retirement, crashing out early to trigger the first round of pit stops as rain began to fall. Charles Leclerc also failed to finish, retiring his hobbled Ferrari after sustaining extensive damage from an early battle with Lando Norris.
Overall, Verstappen's peerless run of form continues. He remains firmly in control of the 2023 title fight, with this latest win showcasing his wet weather mastery.
