Volkswagen India has officially delisted the Tiguan from its website, signalling the discontinuation of the model ahead of the upcoming launch of the new-generation Tiguan R-Line. The previous iteration of the Tiguan was available in a single Elegance trim and was last priced at ₹38.17 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Volkswagen Tiguan served as the brand’s flagship SUV in the Indian market. It was powered by a 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine producing 187 bhp and 320 Nm of peak torque. The powertrain was paired with a 7-speed DSG gearbox, delivering efficient performance along with Volkswagen’s premium SUV experience. The vehicle had been a strong contender in the full-sized SUV segment, competing with models like the Hyundai Tucson and Citroën C5 Aircross.
The next-generation Tiguan R-Line, expected to replace the outgoing Tiguan, will feature an updated version of the 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine. The power output is likely to be increased to 201 bhp while maintaining the same 320 Nm torque. The SUV will be paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT) and will come with Volkswagen’s 4Motion all-wheel-drive (AWD) system for improved traction and handling.
While official specifications and feature lists are yet to be revealed, the Tiguan R-Line is expected to carry a sportier design, premium interiors, and additional technological enhancements compared to its predecessor. Globally, the R-Line variant is known for its aggressive styling, larger alloy wheels, and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), some of which could be carried over to the India-spec model.
Given the performance upgrades and added features, the Tiguan R-Line is expected to be positioned at a premium compared to the discontinued Tiguan. We expect a price range between ₹50-55 lakh (ex-showroom, India). This pricing strategy would place it closer to luxury SUVs like the BMW X1, Mercedes-Benz GLA, and Audi Q3, making it a high-end offering in Volkswagen India’s lineup.
