Volkswagen India has opened order books for the new Tayron R-Line three-row SUV. The German automaker’s flagship offering is scheduled for launch later this month. Volkswagen has commenced the Tayron R-Line pre-bookings for a token amount of ₹51,000 across dealerships and on digital platforms. The new Volkswagen Tayron R-Line is locally assembled in India, and prices are expected to be competitive for the SUV.

The new VW Tayron shares its underpinnings with the Tiguan, which is already on sale in India. The SUV packs a longer wheelbase making for three rows, along with more features. India gets the single, fully loaded R-Line trim of Tayron, bringing a sporty exterior over the standard model. Visual highlights include the blacked out front bumper with a piano black finish, full-width LED DRLs, new HD LED Matrix IQ lights with custom animation pattern, and more.

The cabin sports 12-way electrically adjustable front seats with heated and cold ventilation, as well as massage functions. There’s a heated steering wheel too, along with a panoramic sunroof, three-zone climate control, ambient lighting, leatherette upholstery, multiple storage spaces, and more. The SUV gets a digital instrument console and a massive 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The second row features a sliding and reclining (up to 15 degrees) function, along with sunblinds, air vents, and Type-C USB charging ports. The Tayron gets a 109 mm longer wheelbase, and while that liberates more room in the cabin, the third-row is best reserved for children, as we found out in our review. That said, folding the third row makes way for 850 litres of boot capacity, which can be further increased to 1,905 litres with the second row folded as well.
Powering the new Tayron R-Line is the tried and tested 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine tuned for 201 bhp and 320 Nm of peak torque. The motor is paired with a 7-speed DSG that sends power to all four wheels via All-Wheel Drive (AWD).

Volkswagen will announce prices for the new Tayron R-Line in a few days, and prices should be between ₹50-55 lakh. It will be sold alongside the identical Tiguan R-Line, which remains a short wheelbase five-seater, but is a full import in comparison, and retails at ₹45.73 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom. The new Tayron R-Line will take on the Toyota Fortuner, MG Gloster, and Skoda Kodiaq in the segment.
