Volvo Car India has recorded a sales growth of 40 per cent in the period of January to September 2023, retailing 1,751 cars. While this is good sales growth for Volvo Car India, other luxury brands have registered higher sales figures. However, Audi India has registered higher year-on-year sales growth with 88 per cent growth, selling 5,530 units. Mercedes-Benz India and BMW India sold 12,768 units and 9,580 units, respectively, with around 10 per cent year-on-year growth.
Jyoti Malhotra, Managing Director, Volvo Car India, said “This success reflects customer confidence and our commitment to providing premium, sustainable vehicles to the Indian market. We are truly delighted to witness the overwhelming affection and steadfast support our customers have given to our brand. We see an exciting fourth quarter ahead as we have also come up with an exclusive “Festive Delight offer” for our customers this season.”
The Swedish brand said this growth was driven by the XC60 SUV, which contributed 35 per cent of the total sales, selling 613 units during the first nine years of the month. It is followed by the XC40 Recharge EV, which sold 419 units during this period, registering around 24 per cent of the total sales.
Volvo Car India mentions that its EVs account for 27 per cent of the sales from January to September 2023. The brand currently sells two EVs in India – the XC40 Recharge and the C40 Recharge. The latter was launched in India in September 2023 at Rs. 61.25 lakh and recently received a price hike, with it now retailing for Rs. 62.95 lakh (both prices ex-showroom, India) and receiving over 100 bookings in the first month of its launch.
