The Volvo S90, the brand’s flagship luxury sedan, is no longer available for sale in India. The model has been officially delisted from the Volvo Cars India website, signalling its quiet exit from the Indian market. The S90 was last updated in India with a facelift in October 2021.

The Volvo S90 was offered in a single, fully loaded B5 trim featuring a 246 bhp, 2.0-litre, four-cylinder mild-hybrid petrol engine. Key features included a 360-degree camera, four-zone climate control, a premium 1,400 W Bowers & Wilkins 19-speaker sound system, ventilated and massaging front seats, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), and air suspension. The sedan was assembled locally and was last priced at ₹68.25 lakh (ex-showroom).

Despite its high equipment levels, the S90 struggled to maintain competitive footing in India’s luxury sedan segment. Newer rivals like the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and BMW 5 Series offered more modern technology and a broader powertrain range, contributing to the S90’s declining sales performance.

Globally, the S90 received another facelift in April 2024, which brought updated exterior styling, a larger touchscreen interface, and revised mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains. Volvo also introduced the all-electric ES90 earlier this year, based on the same platform, boasting a range of up to 700km from a 106 kWh battery pack. However, neither the updated S90 nor the ES90 has been confirmed for the Indian market.

Volvo Cars India is now shifting focus to its electric SUV line-up. The company plans to launch the EX30, a compact all-electric SUV, by the end of 2025 and is considering local assembly to make it more accessible. Following that, the larger EX90 electric SUV is expected to arrive in India sometime next year.
