Volvo is gearing up to introduce the facelifted XC90 in India on March 4, after unveiling it for the global market in September last year. The refreshed version of the Swedish luxury SUV retains its core identity while incorporating subtle design updates and new technology enhancements. As the flagship SUV in Volvo’s lineup, the XC90 facelift is expected to bring a mix of aesthetic refinements and performance tweaks.
The updated XC90 follows Volvo’s latest design philosophy, aligning it more closely with the EX90. The most noticeable changes are at the front, where a redesigned grille, sharper LED headlights with signature T-shaped daytime running lights (DRLs), and a revised air dam contribute to a more modern look. However, given that this is a facelift rather than a full-generation update, the side and rear profiles remain largely unchanged, except for minor styling adjustments.
Inside, the XC90 facelift retains much of the existing cabin design but introduces a larger touchscreen infotainment system with updated software. The centre console now offers additional storage space, and slight ergonomic improvements are expected to enhance user convenience. One of the key technical upgrades in this iteration is the addition of Frequency Selective Damping (FSD) technology, which is likely to refine the SUV’s ride quality and handling dynamics.
Internationally, the Volvo XC90 facelift continues with the same 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, available in two configurations: a 48V mild-hybrid and a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant. The PHEV version is particularly noteworthy, as it features an 18.8 kWh battery pack that delivers an EV-only range of up to 70 km. While these options have been confirmed for global markets, the final variant lineup for India will be announced closer to launch.
