The Volvo XC60 has officially become the best-selling Volvo model in the company's history, with over 2.7 million units sold since its 2008 debut. This achievement surpasses the previous record held by the iconic Volvo 240, marking a significant point for the brand. The XC60, which earned the World Car of the Year title in 2018, continues to be a core product for Volvo.
Volvo's financial report for 2024 shows a strong year, with global sales reaching 763,389 units and a core operating profit of SEK 27 billion. The XC60 was the top-selling Volvo model worldwide in 2024, accounting for 230,853 units. Its success highlights Volvo's focus on safety, Scandinavian design, and SUV practicality, factors that resonate with consumers globally.
In a competitive market segment, the XC60 stands as a significant player. For example, in the US market during the first quarter of 2025, the XC60 sold 12,706 units. This places it among the top luxury vehicles, close to rivals such as the Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class (13,020 units) and the Audi Q5 (13,659 units), and not far behind the BMW X5 (17,438 units). While direct global sales comparisons across all luxury mid-size SUVs for 2024 are complex due to varying reporting methods, the XC60 consistently appears in top-seller lists within its category in key markets like Europe, the US, and India. In India, for instance, the XC60 led Volvo's sales with 867 units in FY2024.
The XC60's continued market presence is supported by its integration of safety systems like City Safety and Oncoming Lane Mitigation, features that have become segment benchmarks. As Volvo progresses its electrification strategy, the XC60 also plays a role, with electrified versions contributing to Volvo's overall sales, particularly in Europe where electrified models represent a growing share.
