Currently, JK Tyre’s TPMS system is available in the aftermarket, and it now wants to expand to OEM fitment.
JK Tyre, a renowned homegrown tyre manufacturer, not only manufactures tyres but also offers an aftermarket tyre pressure monitoring system that can be retrofitted to existing tyres. This is a benefit for customers whose cars don’t come with an in-built sensor. However, JK Tyre wants to move ahead from being an aftermarket player to an OEM supplier for this tech.
During a recent media interaction, Anshuman Sighania, Managing Director, JK Tyre, said, “With this technology, the consumer gets an alert today on the smartphone, but we are very much in active talks to get into the dashboards of the OEMs, be it truck, passenger, two or three wheeler, and even to an extent farm applications and OTR (off-the-road).”
This will help JK Tyre expand its technological arm from aftermarket to OEM. The brand currently sells this technology through its JK Smart Tyre and TREEL brands, with the latter focusing more on the sensor. The JK Smart Tyre comes fitted with these sensors from the factory.
Singhania added, “It has definitely caught the fancy of the young consumer. We saw a big traction coming in from two- and three-wheeler consumers.” As mentioned earlier, JK tyre's TPMS is fitted into the tyres, and Singhania says the “next generation is going to be embedded”, i.e, it will come from the factory with a TPMS unit.
The TPMS not only helps consumers get the most out of the tyres but will also help JK Tyre improve its products. Singhania said that since India is a large piece of land where its products are constantly on the road, it will allow JK Tyre to get “a lot of sharp data to tweak our products and improve our performance.”
