What Else Can You Buy For The Price Of The Skoda Superb?

Skoda Auto India recently relaunched the Superb sedan in India after a hiatus of around a year. The Superb was discontinued in April 2023 with the advent of the stricter BS6.2 emissions norms. While Skoda has revealed the fourth-gen Superb globally, India currently gets the facelifted third-gen Superb. 

Priced at ₹54 lakh (ex-showroom, India), the Superb is a pricey affair. Its primary rival, the Toyota Camry hybrid, retails for ₹46.17 lakh (ex-showroom, India), which is nearly ₹8 lakh cheaper than the former. The Czech sedan is also more expensive than its other European counterparts. So, what other luxury cars can you buy for the price of the Superb?

Toyota Fortuner

Price: ₹33.43 - 51.44 lakh (ex-showroom, India)

Not exactly a luxury car, the Toyota Fortuner is a very popular model in the country given its robust build quality and go-anywhere ability. Even the top-spec GR Sport variant is slightly more affordable than the Superb. The Fortuner may be lacking in features, but it more than makes up for it with its rough-and-tough nature. 

BYD Seal

Price: ₹41 - 53 lakh (ex-showroom, India)

The latest launch in this list is the BYD Seal electric sedan. The Seal is BYD’s third model in India and comes with multiple battery and powertrain options. The Seal also comes with plethora of features like a panoramic sunroof, BYD’s signature rotating infotainment touchscreen, dual-zone climate control, heated and ventilated front seats and so much more.

Audi Q3

Price: ₹43.81 - 53.17 lakh (ex-showroom, India)

Audi’s most affordable SUV in India is significantly more affordable than the Superb. Like its stablemate from the Volkswagen Group, the Q3 also only gets petrol powertrain options. The Q3 also comes loaded with many features like a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen and more. 

BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe

Price: ₹43.90 - 46.90 lakh (ex-showroom, India)

Like the Q3, the BMW 2 Series is also significantly more affordable than the Czech sedan. Unlike the Superb, BMW offers the 2 Series with a choice of petrol and diesel engines. On the features front, the 2 Series gets two 10.25-inch screens, a wireless charger, a head-up display and a 10-speaker sound system, among others. However, the 2 Series is also significantly smaller in dimension compared to the Superb. 

Audi A4

Price: ₹45.34 - 53.77 lakh (ex-showroom, India)

The closest vehicle in terms of dimensions to the Superb is the Audi A4. However, it is still slightly smaller than the Superb. And like other Volkswagen Group models, the A4 is also available only with petrol powertrain options. The features list of the A4 includes a single-pane sunroof, digital instrument cluster, triple-zone climate control and more. 

Mercedes-Benz A-Class

Price: ₹46.05 - 48.55 lakh (ex-showroom, India)

A fitting alternative to the Superb, if you don’t mind the size, is the Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedan. Mercedes-Benz offers a choice of petrol and diesel powertrain options and the A-Class comes loaded with technology. It gets a dual-screen setup, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a digital key, and more.

Hyundai Ioniq 5

Price: ₹46.05 lakh (ex-showroom, India)

This may be a surprising entry in this list, but it is still a very good alternative to the Superb. The Ioniq 5 is a competent electric vehicle that has a range of up to 631 km (ARAI-certified). It has features like vehicle-to-load functionality, sliding and reclining rear seats, a panoramic sunroof, connected car technology, a Bose-tuned audio system and ADAS, among others. 

Mini Countryman Cooper S

Price: ₹48.10 (ex-showroom, India)

The Countryman is Mini’s only SUV and globally, the third-generation model made its global debut late last year. It is expected to launch in India by 2025. The Countryman gets features like dual-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, a Harmon Kardon-tuned audio system, an 8.8-inch infotainment touchscreen in a circular housing, and more. 

BMW X1

Price: ₹49.50 - 52.50 lakh (ex-showroom, India)

The BMW X1 is available in its third generation, and like the 2 Series, it is available with petrol and diesel powertrain options. There are lots of features on offer in the X1 such as a curved display panel for the infotainment and driver’s displays, a vertical wireless charger, panoramic sunroof, Harmon Kardon-tuned sound system, dual-zone climate control and more.

Mercedes-Benz GLA

Price: ₹51.75 - 58.15 lakh (ex-showroom, India)

The GLA is Mercedes-Benz’s smallest SUV and it recently launched the facelifted second-gen model in India. With the facelift, the GLA gets keyless go, MBUX operating system for the infotainment system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 360-degree camera and more. It continues to get a petrol and a diesel engine option, with Mercedes’ 4Matic all-wheel drive reserved only for the latter.

Volvo XC40 Recharge

Price: ₹54.95 - 57.90 lakh (ex-showroom, India)

Last but not least, the Volvo XC40 Recharge. While it may be slightly more expensive than the Superb, the XC40 Recharge more than makes up for it by being an electric vehicle. The newly launched single-motor XC40 Recharge is very efficient and comes with features like ADAS, a vertically-oriented 9-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 12-inch digital instrument cluster and more. 

There are plenty of alternatives available for the Superb in the luxury segment, be it sedans or SUVs. While they may be smaller in dimension compared to the Czech sedan, they make up for it in brand value or efficiency. Which is the one that you will choose instead of the Skoda Superb?
