The Whoop service is now accepting Indian members for $239 for an annual membership.
Whoop, the fitness band popular among athletes worldwide, including former India captain Virat Kohli, has officially launched in India. Kohli, who was the top run-scorer in the 2023 Cricket World Cup and is currently the top run-getter in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL), has been seen wearing a Whoop band during these performances.
“After announcing our partnership with Cristiano Ronaldo last week, I have another exciting update to share: WHOOP is now available in India. If you’re in India and have been thinking about trying WHOOP, now is the time,” said Whoop founder and CEO, Will Ahmed, in a post on X.
Ahmed noted that Whoop is already favoured by Indian cricketers. The membership program offers a comprehensive fitness tracking experience, combining the strap with data-driven fitness management. This is considered superior to offerings from Google-owned Fitbit and Apple.
The Whoop membership includes a Whoop strap that monitors health metrics such as heart rate, sleep quality, and activity levels. The data collected is used to provide personalised insights and recommendations to help users optimise their performance and recovery.
This functionality makes Whoop a preferred choice among athletes globally, including Indian cricketers, who can use the screenless tracker during the ongoing IPL. Cricket rules don’t allow the use of a device which has a screen including smartwatches and bands.
Whoop is available for $239 for an annual membership and $299 for a two year plan.
