Yamaha’s first electric scooter for the Indian market claims 169 km of range.
Yamaha has officially entered India’s fast-growing electric two-wheeler market with the launch of its first electric scooter, the Yamaha EC-06. The first Yamaha electric scooter for the Indian market is priced at ₹1,67,600 (ex-showroom, Delhi). The EC-06 is based on the River Indie which retails for ₹1,45,999 ex-showroom, Delhi). It will be initially sold in select cities through Yamaha’s premium Blue Square showrooms and is available in a single Bluish White colour option.
Commenting on the announcement, Mr. Hajime Aota, Chairman, Yamaha Motor India Group said, “The EC-06 marks an important step in Yamaha’s journey toward sustainable urban mobility. As India accelerates its transition toward a carbon-neutral future under the government’s visionary leadership, Yamaha is proud to support this national agenda through high-quality electric innovation. Designed for everyday commuting, it balances efficiency with performance, offering an impressive range and intuitive features. As a first-of-its-kind model from Yamaha, it demonstrates how sustainability and riding excitement can coexist—true to our brand philosophy and our responsibility towards the future of India’s green economy.”
Powering the EC-06 is an IPMSM (Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) paired with a 4 kWh fixed battery. The scooter is powered by a 6.7 kW motor that delivers 26 Nm of torque and the claimed top speed is 79 kmph. The battery comes with a 3-year/30,000 km warranty and supports standard home charging. A full charge takes around 8 hours and the claimed range for the Yamaha electric scooter is 169 km. The EC-06 features three riding modes – Eco, Standard and Power, and there’s also a Reverse Mode.

The electric scooter gets a colour LCD display showing speed, battery status, riding mode, and connectivity information. It also comes with full LED lighting and features 24.5 litres of under-seat storage. Suspension duties are handled by a telescopic front fork and a monoshock unit at the rear. Braking is managed by a 200 mm disc brake at both ends along with a Combi Brake System (CBS).

With Yamaha entering the Indian EV market, all the major Japanese brands are now part of the electric scooter segment. Honda hasn’t been able to replicate the Activa magic with its electric offering while Suzuki’s e-Access has priced itself out of contention. Among the three, Yamaha looks the best placed as the specs of the scooter is good and while the pricing is a bit premium, the Yamaha brand does have a lot of followers. It will be interesting to see how the Yamaha EC-01 performs in our market and whether or not it can overtake the River Indie, the Indian scooter on which it’s based.
