Yamaha finally entered the Indian electric two-wheeler market with the EC-06, although official prices are yet to be announced.
Yamaha unveiled not one but two electric scooters on the same day. One was the all-electric version of the Aerox while the other was the EC-06, based on River Indie. As expected, the EC-06 has plenty of commonalities with the locally-developed electric scooter from the Indian startup yet it offers several unique attributes that are worth noting. Here’s a brief rundown of the top 5 highlights of the Yamaha EC-06.
Even though it is based on the River Indie, the Yamaha EC-06 isn’t a replica of the same. For instance, the EC-06 gets a single rectangular LED headlamp assembly as opposed to the twin squared headlight assembly seen in the Indie. On the EC-06, the LED indicators are positioned above the headlight, unlike on the Indie, where they are placed lower and more susceptible to damage.
Furthermore, the taillight cluster of the EC-06 is also very different from the one seen in Indie. Overall, the Yamaha EC-06 looks and feels a little more sophisticated as compared to the River Indie which feels more rugged and utilitarian thanks to pannier stays on both sides and a bag hanger for tethering luggage.
Yamaha EC-06 comes with a decent list of features comprising LED headlights and taillights, a sizable 24.5-litre under-seat storage, and a digital LCD instrument console with built-in telematics unit and an eSIM that allows real-time connectivity and data access through Yamaha’s Y-Connect app. There’s also a smart key system for convenience.
The Yamaha EC-06 gets a 4 kWh battery that claims to return a range of 160 km on a full charge. Yamaha says the battery can be fully charged in 9 hours, however, the company is yet to disclose the charging speed of the EC-06.
The battery sends energy to a 4 kWh high-capacity fixed electric motor. That high-capacity which is claimed to have a certified riding range of 160 km. This motor puts out a peak power output of 6.7 kW (9 bhp) which is capable of clocking a top speed of 90 kmph. There are three ride modes on offer: Eco, Normal, & Sport, along with a reverse mode.
Yamaha hasn’t officially announced prices for the EC-06, however, we expect a slightly higher price tag than the River India which costs ₹ 1.46 lakh (ex-showroom). It must be noted that Yamaha EC-06 will be manufactured entirely by River at its factory in Hoskote, Karnataka.
