Yamaha EC-06 vs River Indie: Key Differences

Yamaha officially entered the Indian electric two-wheeler market with the introduction of EC-06. Priced at ₹1,67,600 (ex-showroom, Delhi), the electric scooter will be initially sold in select cities through Yamaha’s premium Blue Square showrooms. The Yamaha EC-06 is based on the River Indie and hence, share lots of similarities. Yet, there are differences that set them apart. Here are five key differences between the EC-06 and Indie.

Yamaha EC-06 vs River Indie: Design

The first change visible are the subtle changes in styling. For instance, the Indie’s twin-headlight setup has been replaced with a more conventional vertically stacked headlight cluster in the EC-06. Same goes with the taillight clusters with different LED signatures. On the EC-06, the LED indicators are mounted above the headlamp, unlike the Indie where they are placed much lower and are more susceptible to damage—particularly given the hectic conditions of everyday street traffic.

At the rear, the Yamaha EC-06 looks noticeably sleeker that provides it a sportier and more youthful stance whereas the Indie carries a more utilitarian approach with its pannier mounts and a bag hanger for tethering luggage.

Yamaha EC-06 vs River Indie: Storage

The River Indie offers a massive 43 litres of under-seat storage. In addition, it also comes with 12 litres of covered storage in the front apron, making it a very practical family scooter. In contrast, the Yamaha EC-06 offers a modest 24.5 litres of underseat storage with no provision for an apron glovebox.

Both scooters feature a coloured LCD instrument console. On one hand, the Yamaha EC-06 adopts a relatively minimalist approach, displaying essential information such as speed, battery charge, odometer and trip readings. It also offers smartphone connectivity for accessing ride statistics and alerts, although it lacks turn-by-turn navigation.

In contrast, the Indie’s smartphone-enabled console is more feature-rich, offering ride statistics, hill-hold assist, customisable display data and real-time charging information across different modes. Beyond the console, it also provides multiple accessory mounting points, a large boot light, apron-mounted crash guards and pannier mounts.

Yamaha EC-06 vs River Indie: Battery & Motor Specs

Both the EC-06 and Indie share the same 4 kWh battery and 6.7 kW motor that delivers 26 Nm of torque motor. However, River claims a top speed of 90 kmph for the Indie, whereas the Yamaha EC-06 is rated lower at 79 kmph. On the other hand, the EC-06 holds a marginal edge in claimed IDC range, offering 169 km compared to the Indie’s 163 km. 

Charging times are largely similar, with both manufacturers stating that a 0–80 percent charge takes around eight hours using a 480 W charger. However, the Indie also offers an optional 750W fast charger, which the EC-06 does not get. With this faster charger, the Indie can achieve a 0–80 percent charge in just five hours. In terms of charging port placement, the EC-06 uses a more conventional apron-mounted location, while the Indie positions its port on the side panel.

Yamaha EC-06 vs River Indie: Price

Yamaha has priced the EC-06 at ₹1,67,600 (ex-showroom, Delhi), which makes it ₹21,000 more expensive than the River Indie (₹1.46 lakh, ex-showroom). The EC-06 will be manufactured entirely by River at its factory in Hoskote, Karnataka even though it wears the Yamaha badge.
