The Chennai plant also completed a decade of operation this year.
Yamaha India celebrated two significant milestones at its manufacturing facility in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The brand not only completed 10 years of operation here, but also rolled out its 5 millionth two-wheeler. The milestone two-wheeler was the Yamaha Aerox 155 finished in the iconic Yamaha blue colour. This sporty-maxi scooter was recently updated with new features, and colour options. You can read all about it here.
This manufacturing facility in Chennai holds a very strategic importance for the brand. More than 30 per cent of the two-wheelers manufactured here are exported by Yamaha to markets like Europe, Latin America, and ASEAN. Currently, the Chennai plant manufactures the Yamaha RayZR 125 Fi, Fascino 125 Fi, and Aerox 155 Version S for the Indian market. And for international markets, it manufactures the entire Yamaha FZ series, Saluto range, and Alpha scooters.
Spread across 177 acres, the facility operates under an integrated model wherein 109 acres is dedicated to India Yamaha Motor, and 68 acres houses co-located vendor partners. The plant has been upgraded several times over the past decade to accommodate production of both motorcycles and scooters ranging from small to mid range engine displacements. “As one of Yamaha’s most modern manufacturing facilities worldwide, it has supported India’s mobility aspirations while reinforcing its role as a trusted exporter to global markets,” noted Itaru Otani, Chairman, Yamaha Motor India Group of Companies.
