Is MG's first-ever electric roadster any fun around India's biggest racing circuit?

The Cyberster marks the return of the MG roadster – small, topless sports car – but with a modern twist. Gone are the days of noisy, polluting convertible MGs, because the Cyberster is fully electric!

Today is all about having fun with the Cyberster at the Buddh International Circuit because Siddharth reviewed the Cyberster exclusively. Have you read it yet? No? Why not? Go read it here and come back to read this track experience.

So today, no pressure on the review part, then. Which means I get to have a lot of fun around the track in an EV that's got around 580 km of range, enough to set a few blistering lap times! And with 503 bhp on offer, I couldn't have asked for more.

The Cyberster does 0-100 kmph in 3.2 seconds, and while I’m already at the finish line, my brain’s back at the start line. It's that quick!

As you very well know, the Cyberster gets dual electric motors with 503 bhp, 725 Nm, and MG claims a top speed of 200 kmph, but guess what, we managed to cross that, reaching nearly 210 kmph. MG should probably retest it. That 580 km range I mentioned comes courtesy of a large 77 kWh battery pack!

The Cyberster is an electric vehicle and you’d expect it to be very heavy around the corners, but honestly it does a really a job of masking its weight around the corners and it is a great accelerator, 0-100 kmph in barely any time and like I’m doing right now you can barely feel any weight, unless you compare to another ICE, you are not going to any weight. For an EV, it’s absolutely great.

MG Cyberster Track Drive: Design

This is not just an EV, it's a flex on four wheels. Why? Because just look at the scissor doors – by far the most affordable car in India to get them. You'd have to buy a Lamborghini around 10 times the price to look this cool talk about flexing on a budget. But be careful, you won't be able to get out of your car if you're in a tight space, so just ensure your parking space is big enough.

MG Cyberster Track Drive: Interior and Features

The coolness quotient doesn't end there. Step inside, and you're in awe of the way the fit and finish is. The number of screens, the black and red cabin, the rag top.

Let me tell you all the safety parts quickly – 4 airbags, 4 disc brakes, driver drowsiness sensor, electronic parking brake, parking sensors and ADAS. But unfortunately, no crash test ratings yet, as is the case with most MGs sold in India.

MG Cyberster Track Drive: Price and Verdict

Now let’s get down to business. At 75 lakh rupees, the Cyberster isn’t exactly cheap, but it’s quite an affordable sports car. The closest sporty cars you get at that price are the BMW M340i and Audi S5, but neither is as swanky nor will they attract as many eyeballs. Sure, the Cyberster lacks an internal combustion engine, rear doors and rear seats, but do you care about any of that when the car stands out?

If you are comparing Cabrios, then there’s the BMW Z4 and the Mercedes-Benz CLE, but both are way more expensive. The Z4 is nearly 20 lakh rupees more expensive, while the CLE (which is not even the full-fledged AMG version) costs a whopping 40 lakhs more. So, the Cyberster turns out to be quite a value for money.

MG_Cyberster_Static_5_400ca655f4.webp And if you compare it to other EVs, then there are quite a lot of them – Hyundai IONIQ 5, Kia EV6, BYD Seal, BYD Sealion 7, BMW iX1 LWB, BMW i4, Volvo EX40, Volvo EC40, and even the Mercedes-Benz EQA, but all of them are practical. The Cyberster is the impractical choice, naturally! But again, if impractical looks this charming, would you be able to resist it?
