Amazon is working to add more long-range electric heavy trucks in its existing fleet in the coming months.
Amazon on Wednesday announced it has successfully expanded its electric vehicle (EV) fleet in India, and it has hit its target of 10,000 electric delivery vehicles by October 2024 -- a year earlier than it initially planned.
From major metropolitan centres like Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, to remote locations including Leh and Gangtok, Amazon's EV fleet operates across 500 cities in India.

Amazon has also become the first e-commerce firm to test long-range electric heavy trucks along the 350km Bengaluru-Chennai highway, in a bid to decarbonise its fleet. For this, the retail giant has joined hands with Ashok Leyland, Billion-E, and ChargeZone to explore the potential of long-range electric freight transportation.
The company is working to add more long-range electric heavy trucks in its existing fleet in the coming months.
"We are working to increase the number in our fleet of long-range electric heavy trucks over the next two to three months. We are also doing higher number of routes and pilots to find the right fit from a business perspective. The model will not be very different from what we've been making so far," Abhinav Singh, Vice President, Operations at Amazon India told Acko Byte.

Its partnership with these carmakers are in line with the country's focus on on e-mobility, addressing environmental challenges and contributing to the national goal of net-zero emissions by 2070.
