Google Pixel 9a Price, Full Specifications and Design Purportedly Leak

Extensive details about Google’s Pixel smartphones have often been leaked long before their official launches, and it looks like the upcoming Pixel 9a will no longer be a surprise. For the last several years, Google has launched its premium Pixel phones in October, with a matching budget A-series model coming out between March and August of the following year. The relatively early launch of the Pixel 9 series in August this year could mean that the Pixel 9a launch will also be brought forward. Google has already confirmed that it is shaking up its Android OS release schedule with two major updates set to drop in 2025, so the Pixel 9a might be released even ahead of the company’s usual mid-year Google IO conference.

As for the most recent leaks, Android Headlines says it has uncovered a full spec sheet which has been verified with two sources, one of which is a cellular service provider. The Pixel 9a is set to debut with a $499 starting price for the 128GB variant, which is the same as the Pixel 8a. This will hopefully mean that the price in India will also stay the same, although recent changes in currency exchange values could affect that. It is possible that this phone will be made in India, though no concrete information in that regard has surfaced yet. 

Measuring 8.9mm thick and weighing 185.9g, this will not be a very compact phone. It will come in Porcelain, Obsidian, Iris, and Peony. The mid-frame is said to be made of anodised metal while the rear panel will be made of a composite material with a matte finish. There will be Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on the front, and the device is IP68 rated for water and dust resistance.

The camera bump will protrude by only 0.5mm which is a significant change compared to the thick “visor” design of recent Pixel models and the chunky island of the Pixel 9 series. This is consistent with previous leaks purporting to show photos of actual pre-production units, including now-deleted photos purportedly shared by a Google employee on a Vietnamese Facebook page that made their way to social media.

Unsurprisingly, the Pixel 9a will feature Google’s own Tensor G4 SoC, just like its more expensive siblings. It will also feature Google’s Titan M2 security hardware. There will be 128GB and 256GB variants (UFS 3.1), both with 8GB of LPDDR5X RAM. It will ship with Android 15 and will receive seven years of major version updates and security patches. 

While 5G is to be expected, a custom version for Verizon in the US featuring mmWave support will purportedly be offered starting at $549. This phone has a single nano-SIM slot plus support for an eSIM. India is on a list of confirmed launch markets, along with the USA, Canada, and several Asian and European countries. Other countries including Mexico, Malaysia, and the UAE are listed as “pending markets”.

As per the leaks, the Pixel 9a will have a 6.285-inch p-AMOLED display with Google’s “Actua” branding. It will have a full-HD+ resolution and 120Hz peak refresh rate, with brightness rated at 1000nits for normal viewing and 1800nits with HDR content. DCI-P3 colour gamut coverage is 100 percent.  

The main camera is listed as having a 48-megapixel resolution and f/1.7 aperture. Video recording could go up to 8K 30fps. There will also be a 13-megapixel f/2.2 ultra-wide angle camera and a 13-megapixel front camera, both using Sony’s IMX712 sensor. 

Users will get a 5100mAh battery and support for 23W wired as well as 7.5W Qi wireless charging. Other features include stereo speakers, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 6.
