The Maruti Suzuki Jimny is one of the most unique SUVs in the Indian market, offering a combination of rugged off-road capability and compact proportions. With its ladder-frame chassis, 4x4 drivetrain, and tried-and-tested 1.5-litre petrol engine, the Jimny appeals to adventure enthusiasts looking for a capable lifestyle vehicle.
Despite its niche positioning, the Jimny has carved a space for itself among off-roaders and urban buyers alike. Now, thanks to the Indian government’s GST 2.0 reforms, the Jimny is set to become more affordable.
Effective from September 22, 2025, the GST applicable to cars like the Jimny has been revised. Earlier, sub-4m vehicles with engines larger than 1.2L (petrol) or 1.5L (diesel) were taxed at 28% GST + 17% cess = 45% total tax. Under the new structure, this bracket has been rationalised to a flat 40% GST with no cess.
This shift results in a reduction in ex-showroom prices across all Jimny variants.
