What is the Tata Nexon Safety Rating?

The Global New Car Assessment Programme (NCAP) is a program that assesses the car’s safety performance. The GNCAP performed crash testing to analyse the safety rating of Tata Nexon. The safety test is categorised into different segments, such as safety assist and adult and child occupant safety.

The Tata Nexon got a crash test rating of 5 stars for adult occupant protection. For child occupant protection, the car achieved a 3-star certification. The NCAP was conducted for both the driver and passenger side of this car at a speed of 64 km/h. Such successful testing has made Tata Nexon among the few Indian cars to get a 5-star certification from G-NCAP.

Let us discuss the different categories of Nexon safety ratings in the pointers below.

1. Tata Nexon Adult Occupant Protection Rating

The Tata Nexon Adult Occupant Protection Rating analyses the safety of the front passenger and the driver during an accident. During this test, Tata Nexon achieved a 5-star rating that reflects the safety and strength of this car.

In addition, the airbags, seatbelts and structure of Tata Nexon contribute to its high safety rating. Out of 17 points, Tata Nexon scored an impressive 16.06, ensuring the safety of the adult occupants of this car. Furthermore, Global NCAP found out that the frontal and side-impact of this car will have a low risk of chest, head or leg injury. Therefore, Tata Nexon minimises the overall risk of severe injuries caused due to an accident.

2. Tata Nexon Child Occupant Protection Rating

Of 49 points, Tata Nexon scored 25 points in the Tata Nexon Child Occupant Protection Rating test. It assesses the safety of the youngsters in the back seat of the car. Tata Nexon got a 3-star certification during this test, as the manufacturer installed child seat facilities in the rear. It included the installation of ISOFIX anchorages and top tethers to ensure the attachment security of the child seats.

The ISOFIX anchorages offer excellent protection to the 18-month-old dummy’s head. The frontal and side-impact collisions showcase there is good protection for the child occupants and have less risk of chest or head injuries.

3. Safety Assist Test

The Tata Nexon safety assist test will evaluate the safety features of this car that will help the driver avoid or alleviate an accident. During this test, Tata Nexon gained a 3-star rating, showcasing it has safety features to help drivers avoid accidents. However, there is some scope to improve this score.

Furthermore, contributions of the anti-braking system (ABS), seatbelt reminder and electronic stability control (ESC) are essential for Tata Nexon’s safety assist rating. However, the lack of features like automated emergency braking (AEB), blind-spot detection and lane departure warning (LDW) imposes safety risks.

Adding these features to Tata Nexon will enable it to perform well and guarantee optimal road safety. With the current safety features in Tata Nexon and the rating it has gained from these tests, there is scope for improving its rating by implementing more advanced safety features in this car.
