On 1st April 2023, BMW India introduced the refreshed BMW X3 luxury SUV. This updated model showcases a rejuvenated exterior, enhanced interior featuring new equipment, and upgraded infotainment. Assembled at BMW's Chennai plant via the CKD route, the X3 facelift is currently available in one variant in India: the BMW xDrive 20d priced at Rs. 72.50 Lakhs (ex-showroom, India).
In the Indian market, the BMW X3 faces competition from rivals like the recently launched Audi Q5 facelift and the Mercedes-Benz GLC. The updated X3 boasts a contemporary aesthetic, ample space, and dynamic driving capabilities. Inside, the cabin showcases revised features and offers new upholstery choices. Noteworthy features include a panoramic glass roof, welcome light carpet, ambient lighting with six adjustable designs, and 3-zone automatic climate control with updated air vents.
The BMW X3 is equipped with a 2.0-litre in-line-four cylinder TwinTurbo engine. It produces 187.74 bhp at 5200 rpm and delivers 400 Nm of peak torque at 1750-2500 rpm. The engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic Steptronic sport transmission, which includes an automatic hold function and paddle shifters. The xDrive all-wheel-drive (AWD) system is a standard feature and includes variable torque distribution, Hill Descent Control, and Hill Start Assist. The SUV has four driving modes: ECO PRO, COMFORT, SPORT, and SPORT+. The M Sport variant also features Dynamic Damper Control and Performance Control.
Following are some of the most prominent highlights of the BMW X3:
BMW X3 Price: The ex-showroom price for the BMW X3 is Rs. 72.50 Lakhs. The price varies depending on the three different car model variants currently available in India.
BMW X3 Launch Date: The BMW X3 was launched in India on 1st April 2023.
Configurations for BMW X3: The BMW X3 is available in two trim levels: xDrive20d xLine and xDrive20d M Sport.
The BMW X3's ex-showroom price in Delhi is Rs. 72.50 Lakhs.
In the following section, you can go through the detailed information on the pricing of the one variant of the BMW X3.
BMW X3 Model: The only variant of the BMW X3 is the X3 xDrive20d. This automatic transmission and 1995cc diesel engine model costs around Rs. 72.50 Lakhs (ex-showroom price in Delhi).
The forthcoming segment will delve into the dimensions of the BMW X3, encompassing its interior and exterior design, performance prowess, technological amenities, safety provisions, and additional aspects.
The exterior design undergoes some significant alterations that make it seem current and unique and set it apart from the crowd. Starting at the front, you'll notice a redesigned face with a larger grille. It isn't as polarising as the massive one on the X7, but it is a significant component of the fascia. Look closely and discover the 'active air stream' that serves as a curtain inside the grille. It opens and closes based on engine temperature, improving airflow and reducing drag.
The adaptive LED headlights have 'J-blades' for Daytime Running Lamps. The headlight housing is slimmer and sharper and appears much more contemporary now. The top-spec 'M-sport' trim (such as the one seen above) adds aggressive-looking bumpers with plenty of angles and a contrasting piano black panel for the air dam, adding to the sporty flair.
The optional 20-inch wheels on the side provide a striking silhouette. They look great since they fill the wheel wells wonderfully, and the overall stance is excellent. However, the low tyre profile presents a problem. As standard, the X3 has 19-inch wheels.
The dimensions of the facelifted X3 have not changed. Therefore, its length and wheelbase remain the same. This M-sport trim, however, includes a blacked-out frame around the windows, roof rails, and a sporty side skirt.
The taillights are the most talked-about feature in the back. They are crisp, precisely like the headlights, and owing to 3D modelling, they are incredibly appealing, especially in the dark. The second M-specific feature is a squared-off bumper with a blacked-out diffuser, which may not improve performance but looks excellent. Finally, the chromed-out angular exhaust tips replace the circular ones. They're hefty, and unlike many premium vehicles, they're genuinely linked to the exhaust rather than being a false ornament tacked onto the bumper.
Like its appearance, the new X3's interior has undergone some notable alterations. The dashboard arrangement is consistent with recent BMWs, which have a vast, free-floating 12.3-inch touchscreen in the middle. It significantly improved over the previous edition due to its sharp HD resolution and excellent responsiveness. It also has gesture controls for different multimedia commands, which are extremely handy in everyday driving, and a fantastic 360-degree parking camera that is easy to operate.
Then there's the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, similar to the previous generation but with updated visuals. However, it is more complex than Audi's virtual cockpit. The gear lever is more rounded at the bottom, with relocated buttons for the X3's various functions. The M-sport variant also features a sportier, chunkier, three-spoke steering wheel with thumb rests, leather upholstery, and an M-badge.
Essential features like wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, park help, and a panoramic sunroof are all available, although wireless charging costs a little more. Also missing from this facelift is ventilation and massaging for the front seats, at least on the top-spec version. Nonetheless, the chairs are comfortable and spacious, with optimal cushioning. So, except for a hot back, lengthy trips will be pleasant.
Those who spend time in the back seat will have few complaints about the cabin room. The X3 boasts enough legroom and headroom, and the seatback is at a comfortable angle. Neither too upright nor too reclined. Individual climate control and sunblinds are also available in the back, as well as a 16-speaker Harman-Kardon music system. As previously said, the X3 has not changed in terms of dimensions, so the boot space remains at 550 litres, with the option of folding down the rear seats, which is ample.
A 1995cc engine with an automatic transmission powers the BMW X3 xDrive20d. The 1995cc engine puts out 187.74 bhp @ 5200 rpm of power and 400 Nm @ 1750-2500 rpm of torque. Both these models come equipped with a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder twin-turbo diesel engine.
The BMW X3 has a smooth and efficient gearbox system. It features an 8-speed automatic gearbox with Steptronic for accurate gear changes and efficient power delivery. The gearbox is designed to strike the ideal balance between performance and fuel efficiency, resulting in a sporty yet economical driving experience in the popular luxury SUV.
The BMW X3 provides a thrilling performance owing to its robust engine and dynamic driving characteristics. The X3's inline-four engine produces an amazing 187.74 bhp and 400 Nm, propelling it from 0 to 100 kmph in 7.9 seconds. The clever xDrive all-wheel-drive technology assures maximum grip and control, while the perfectly calibrated suspension gives a smooth and elegant ride. Whether traversing twisting roads or embarking on off-road excursions, the BMW X3 provides an exciting driving experience that blends power, reactivity, and confidence-inspiring handling.
The BMW X3 is a popular premium midsize vehicle that gets excellent mileage for its class. The X3 has an average city fuel efficiency of 16.55 kilometres per litre with the diesel engine, which yields an overall satisfactory fuel efficiency rating for the car. One must note that a car's mileage also depends on various factors, such as the driving style, road condition, and vehicle condition.
The BMW X3 offers impressive ground clearance, which befits its standing as a luxury SUV. With a minimum ground clearance of 204 mm, the vehicle can readily negotiate various terrain and obstacles. This significant ride height enhances its off-road capabilities, contributing to its dominant road presence and elevated driving posture. Furthermore, the BMW X3's advanced air suspension system allows further ground clearance adjustability at the maximum setting. This versatility ensures that the BMW can readily transition from challenging terrain to urban road conditions quickly and gracefully.
The BMW X3 boasts a generous boot (trunk) area designed to satisfy the needs of its discerning owners. With upright back seats, the BMW X3 offers an impressive 550 litres of luggage space. This expansive compartment easily accommodates multiple oversized baggage or various sports equipment, enabling luxurious travel without sacrificing practicality. The rear seats can be folded down for additional space requirements, effectively doubling the overall cargo capacity. This feature allows the car to accommodate a substantial amount of luggage or bulky items comfortably.
The BMW X3's massive frame lends it a powerful presence. It is 4,716 mm long, 1,897 mm broad, and 1,669 mm high. The car's extended 2,500 mm wheelbase contributes to its spacious interior and excellent ride quality. These spacious dimensions allow the BMW X3's luxury features while providing a confident and powerful stance suited for BMW's flagship SUV.
The BMW X3 is available in 4 colour options:
Mineral White
Phytonic Blue
Sophisto Grey Brilliant Effect
Brooklyn Grey
The BMW X3, a high-end sports car, offers a range of safety features, including anti-lock brakes, traction control, and front as well as side airbags. Additionally, it comes equipped with an electronic stability function as standard, aiding in maintaining traction during demanding driving conditions. Other safety features include Attentiveness Assistance, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), electric parking brake with auto hold, side-impact protection, electronic vehicle immobiliser and crash sensor, ISOFIX child seat mounting, and an integrated emergency spare wheel located under the load floor.
The BMW X3 is one of those vehicles that tops the luxury car segment. It goes up against its rivals, like the Audi Q5, Mercedez Benz GLC, Jaguar F-Pace, Volvo XC60, etc., in terms of style and performance.
The BMW X3 model receives considerable upgrades and is not only a 'facelift'. The latest model makeover has substantial appearance and internal improvements over the previous version. This part will highlight the primary changes between the BMW X3 model and the old 2018 to 2022 model.
The facelifted X3 retained aggressive styling with a sportier body kit and larger air intakes. The pre-facelift 2018-2022 model had a sleeker, more understated exterior design with smaller kidney grilles and subtler styling indications.
The X3 facelift featured a driver-focused interior with bolstered sports seats, sporty accents, and a chunky M-branded steering wheel. The pre-facelift 2018-2022 model had a more luxurious and upscale cabin, focusing on premium materials and comfort.
The facelifted X3 prioritised performance features like a sport-tuned suspension, larger brakes, and a rear-biased all-wheel-drive system. The 2018-2022 model focused on convenience and safety features, including the latest driver assistance systems.
A 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-4 engine powered both the facelifted X3 and the 2018-2022 model. Both were paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The exterior appearance has been enhanced, boasting a respectable road presence that's visually appealing to us.
Front seating is spacious, supportive, comfortable, and highly adjustable.
Driving convenience is effortless, providing a relaxed experience in city traffic and on the open highway.
The upscale interior portrays a luxurious ambience, is well-appointed, and excels in safety features.
A comfortable ride results in a smooth, composed, unaffected by rough or uneven road surfaces.
The steering feels heavy at lower speeds, lacking the distinctiveness found in other BMW models.
The rear seat lacks adequate thigh support, and an adjustable backrest would enhance comfort.
Some desirable features, such as cooled seats, need to be present, diminishing the overall luxury experience.
