First introduced in 2003, the BMW X3 is now in its 4th generation.
BMW India is preparing to unveil the highly anticipated fourth generation of its X3 SUV at the 2025 Auto Expo. The new X3 marks the return of the petrol variant, which was discontinued about a year ago. With its refreshed design, updated powertrains, and advanced technology, the new X3 aims to strengthen its position in the competitive premium SUV segment and climb to the top of sales charts.
The exterior of the new BMW X3 has undergone significant updates, reflecting a bold and modern design language. At the front, a larger kidney grille with horizontal and diagonal slats is complemented by LED illumination. Flanking the grille are sleek LED headlamps and daytime running lights. The sides of the SUV feature wide wheel arches with options for four different wheel sizes—18, 19, 20, and 21 inches—in the international version. At the rear, the X3 sports a more athletic design with a smaller windshield and distinctive arrow-shaped LED tail lights, emphasising its sporty character.
Under the hood, the new X3 will be available in two powertrain options tailored for the Indian market. The petrol variant, X3 20i, is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine delivering 206 bhp and 320 Nm of torque. The diesel variant, X3 20d, offers a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine generating 197 bhp and 400 Nm of torque. Both engines are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission as standard. However, BMW has opted not to bring the six-cylinder 30d variant to India. A performance-focused M50 variant, featuring a more powerful engine, is expected to arrive in limited numbers later in 2025.
Inside, the X3 continues BMW’s tradition of blending luxury with advanced technology. The cabin features a digital instrument cluster and an infotainment system similar to the BMW 7 and 5 Series. Hidden air vents, an interaction bar with customisable ambient lighting, and recycled upholstery add a touch of modern sophistication. The redesigned steering wheel, panoramic sunroof, and a centre console housing controls for navigation, audio, and cameras further enhance the premium feel of the interior.
The fourth-generation X3 will make its official debut at the Auto Expo 2025, scheduled from January 17 to 22 at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. Additional details, including pricing and availability, are expected to be revealed during the event.
