If you want to apply for a driving license in Hyderabad, Telengana, you have to follow certain rules. First of all, you have to apply for a Learner License.  For this license, you can also apply through the internet. There is a distinct process that you need to follow in order to renew your license, apply for a license or to apply for an international license. Here are the details of acquiring a driving license in Hyderabad:

Eligibility for Getting a Driving License

The conditions to be fulfilled u to become an eligible for driver  in Hyderabad, Telengana are:

  • You must be at least 18 years or above to apply for your permanent license and be able to lawfully drive a private motor vehicle.

  • You must first acquire a valid learner’s license.

  • You must submit the application form after a minimum period of 30 days and within 180 days of the date of the issuance of your learner’s license.

  • If you are a minimum age of 20 years old and already possess your Learner’s License, you could even apply for commercial vehicle license.

  • All applicants must be up to date with the traffic laws and regulations.

Application process for driving license in Hyderabad, Telengana

There is a test that examines your basic knowledge of driving. It is a computerized exam. Learner license is issued when you clear this examination.

During the period of learner’s license, you need to take the necessary training to be able to drive a vehicle.  If you are aiming for a private license, then you can take the training from anywhere you like. But your trainer must have a valid license. You have to hang a sign of “L” in the car to signify that you are a learner.

To get a permanent driving license, you need to fill Form 4 at the regional Transport Office (RTO).

Along with the form, you will require the following documents:

  • One copy of self attested passport size photograph

  • Address Proof like Voter’s ID, Adhar Card, Passport, etc, and a copy of the same

  • Proof of Age like birth certificate, educational certificate, passport, etc.

  • Proof of payment of requisite fee

When applying for a driving license in Hyderabad, follow these simple steps:

  1. Visit the nearest RTO and collect your application form or directly apply through a motor driving school.

  2. You also have the option to download and print the application form through the website.

  3. In the form, you will need to fill the following details:

  5. Father’s Name

  6. Permanent/temporary address

  7. Education qualification

  8. Date of birth

  9. Place of birth

  10. Blood group

  11. Identification mark

  12. Submit the required documents (passport sized photos, ID proof etc., residence address proof).

  13. After submitting the documents, you will be allotted a preliminary test slot, this it to check how familiar you are with the regulations and road rules.

  14. Once you pass the test, a learner’s license will be provided to you.

  15. To get the permanent license you could opt for the next available slot after a month, once you feel that you are confident to give your final test.

Documents Required for Obtaining a Driving License in Hyderabad, Telangana

1. Form No.4 (driving license application)

2. Self-attested Photo (6 passport sized photos for learner’s license and 1 for permanent license)

3. Residence proof, with attested copy of any of the following:

Ration card (with affidavit), Voter’s ID card, A certified copy of your Voter List,  Valid passport,  Life insurance policy which is at least 6 months old and has latest receipt or Your employer’s certificate if you are employed with the Local Bodies/ Central Government or Government of Karnataka supported by an attested copy of your employee Identity Card.

4. Age Proof (an attested copy of any of the following):

Your educational certificate, Birth Certificate showing the applicant’s name, A Valid (Attested) passport or Employer’s certificate for employees working with the Local Body / State Government / Central Government supported by an attested copy of your Identity Card.

Applying for a Duplicate Driving License at the RTO

If you need to apply for a duplicate license, you can do so at the RTO. The following documents are required to obtain a duplicate driving license in Hyderabad, Telangana:

  1. An application in Form LLD

  2. If it had been lost or stolen, then the FIR/NCR of the lost license

  3. Self declaration of you fitness in Form No. 1

  4. 200/- fee

  5. Copy of address proof, self attested together with the original.

Once the records have been verified, you will be given a duplicate license. However, in case of loss of driving license for more than 6 months from the date of loss, you will need special permission from the Headquarter of the Transport Department. After the submission of the application, you will get the duplicate license once all the particulars have been verified from their existing records.

Application Process to Renew Your License in Hyderabad, Telengana

For renewal of a driving license Hyderabad, Telengana for a commercial, passenger or goods vehicle has to be done after every 3 years. The forms/ papers/ certificates to be deposited for the renewal of the license in this case are:

  1. Application in Form No.9 properly filled up

  2. 2 copies of the applicant’s recent passport size photograph

  3. Medical Certificate in Form No.1

  4. The current Driving license held by the applicant

  5. Documents to prove age and the place of residence

  6. All photo copies are to be self attested

  7. For renewal of heavy motor vehicle, the driver has to submit a certificate of refresher training

Different Kinds of Driving Licenses

Depending on the kind of vehicle you wish to purchase, you can obtain 3 types of driving licenses:

1. Driving license issued for motorcycle without gear:

This type of permanent driving licenses is issued to an individual who wishes to ride motorcycles and/or two wheelers without gears such as scooters or mopeds. An applicant must be at least 16 years of age and above in order to apply for this type of license.

2. Driving license issued for light motor vehicles:

This type of license is given to the applicants who drive a light motor vehicle such as a bike and/or cars. An applicant must be minimum 18 years of age in order to apply for this license.

3. Driving license issued for transport vehicles:

This kind of license is for all the individuals who wish to drive a transport automobile such as cabs, lorries, trucks and trailers. The applicants must be at least 20 years old.

International Driving License in Hyderabad, Telengana

This is a type of driving license which is required by a person who has planned to either visit or settle down in a foreign country. This is required as the normal driving license of Hyderabad would not be valid outside India. This license is issued from different zonal offices of the regional transport authority. It is valid for one year. The validity period is short as you are required to get accustomed to drive in changed scenario like left hand drive in most of the countries unlike in our country. The amount of the fee for the International Driving License is Rs. 1000/-.

The documents which are required to be deposited are:

  1. Application Form for International Driving Permit or IDP

  2. A valid proof of being an  Indian National and an attested copy of the proof.

  3. A valid permanent driver’s license. The validity period of the license should be more than a year from the date of the application. If the validity is lower than a year, then the candidate has to take a fresh driving license.

  4. Valid address proof with one attested copy of the same

  5. Valid  Passport which expires beyond a year from the date of application and an attested copy of the same

  6. Valid Visa where the period remaining is more than one year and the attested copy of it

  7. Five copies of your recent passport size photograph

  8. The medical certificate as prescribed in Form No.1-A

  9. The proof of payment of the fees of Rs. 1,000/-

  10. An airticket might be required on certain occasions

You can expect to get delivery of the International Driving license on the next day. However,  sometimes it takes maximum of 3 days for the processing.

Useful Tips for Clearing Your Driving Test

  • Do not turn off your bike/ car until it stops completely.

  • Shift the gears smoothly and slowly from one level to the other.

  • Use the side and rear mirror while driving.
