The affected vehicles were manufactured between July 21, 2022 and April 30 this year.

Hyundai India has issued a recall of its flagship electric vehicle offering, the Ioniq 5 due to a problem with the integrated charging control unit. The recall affects all Ioniq 5’s that were manufactured between July 21, 2022 and April 30, 2024, as per SIAM.

Hyundai India claims that the potential issue with the integrated charging control unit may lead to the discharge of the 12V battery. Owners of all affected vehicles will be contacted by the company’s dedicated team who will guide them through the recall process.

When speaking to reporters about this recall, a spokesperson from Hyundai further assured that customers will not be charged a single penny to upgrade the integrated charging control unit. The recall is a proactive step from the company wherein the customer’s safety is the top priority.

In India, the Ioniq 5 is available in just one variant. It is powered by a 72.6 kWh battery paired to a single e-motor that is capable of producing 217 bhp and 350 Nm of peak torque in a rear wheel drive set-up. The battery is good for 631 km of range on a single charge, and it takes just 18 minutes to charge 10 per cent to 80 per cent via a 350 kW DC charger.

Hyundai launched the Ioniq 5 in India back in January 2023. Priced at ₹44.95 lakh, the Ioniq 5 is based on the same E-GMP (Electric Global Modular) Platform that also underpins the Kia EV6.
