2024 BMW R 12 And R 12 nineT Showcased

BMW Motorrad has officially unveiled the 2024 R 12 and R 12 nineT models for the North American market, but the highlight here is the introduction of a brand new engine and tons of cosmetic tweaks to keep their respective segments fresh and hotly contested. But before you make assumptions, we expect BMW Motorrad India to introduce both these motorcycles next year in the country but brought via the CBU route, so expect it to be expensive. Nevertheless, both motorcycles share the same engine but have different styles.

Engine

Both models are powered by an all-new 1170 cc air-and-oil-cooled boxer engine with dual overhead camshafts. The engine boasts a bore and stroke of 101 mm and 73 mm, respectively, and a compression ratio of 12:1. The R 12 produces 95 bhp of power at 6,500 rpm and 110 Nm of torque at 6,000rpm, while the R 12 nineT delivers a claimed 109 bhp at 7,000 rpm and 115 Nm at 6,500rpm. The motorcycles feature a 6-speed gearbox and a shaft-type final drive.

Underpinnings

The R 12 lineup features a steel trellis frame design with a bolt-on rear subframe, providing a sturdy foundation. The suspension setup includes a 45 mm inverted fork with rebound and compression adjustability, ensuring a customisable riding experience. At the rear, an aluminium Paralever swingarm with a mono-shock unit completes the package.

Both the 2024 BMW R 12 and R 12 nineT have a braking system with radially-mounted four-piston callipers at the front, paired with 310 mm floating discs. At the rear, there is a two-piston floating calliper with a single 265 mm disc unit.

Features

Both models come with wire-spoke or alloy wheels. Features include round analogue gauges, riding modes, keyless start, and BMW's Intelligent Emergency Call feature. optional add-ons such as BMW Connected Ride, Headlight Pro, Hill Start Assist Pro, and a quick-shifter are available.

Colours

The R 12 is available in Blackstorm Metallic, Aventurine Red Metallic, and Option 719 "Thorium" in Avus Silver Metallic. Meanwhile, the R 12 nineT comes in Blackstorm Metallic, San Remo Green Metallic, and Option 719 aluminium in brushed aluminium and Night Black.

These motorcycles are set to make their way to the US market in the first quarter of 2024. Pricing details will be disclosed closer to the official launch, building anticipation among motorcycle enthusiasts.
