Skoda will offer the upcoming 4th-generation Superb in a hatchback version, as well.
Skoda Auto has released images of the upcoming 4th-generation Superb and also confirmed that it will get a hatchback iteration. Skoda’s flagship model will come in the sedan and estate body shapes. The updated Superb in the sedan form is said to have grown in length and height and become even more aerodynamic. Design wise, Skoda has updated the 4th-gen Superb with a redesigned octagonal grille, updated door handle and a completely redesigned interior.
For the first time, Skoda has fitted the Superb with a head-up display and a central infotainment display that has grown in size to 13 inches. The gearshift level has moved from the centre console to the steering column and the Skoda has added rotary push-buttons, each with its own small digital display, just below the central display. The company also claims to have used 100 per cent recycled polyester for the materials used inside the cabin.
Skoda has also done away with the traditional Active, Ambition, and Style trim levels. These have been replaced by new options: Essence and Selection, which will be sold alongside the Sportline and Laurin & Klement versions. Moreover, the Skoda Superb hatchback has grown by 43 mm in length and 12 mm in height when compared to its predecessor. However, the width and wheelbase remain unchanged.
As far as powertrains are concerned, the 4th-gen Superb will come with 3 petrol engines, 2 diesel engines and a new mild-hybrid version, as well. This will be the first time that the Superb hatchback is offered in a mild-hybrid form. The entry-level model will come with a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder TSI motor that churns out 148 bhp. This engine will be supplemented with a 48-volt belt-driven starter-generator and a 48-volt lithium-ion battery.
Apart from this, Skoda will also offer the Superb with a 2.0-litre TSI motor in two states of tune: 201 bhp and 261 bhp. The 2.0-litre TDI engine also gets two versions: 148 bhp and 190 bhp. The top petrol variant will come with all-wheel drive as standard. Furthermore, all engine options on the Superb will come mated to 7-speed DSG as standard, which is another first from the Czech automaker.
