The sporty made-in-India Italian sport bike won the title from the Hero Xtreme 125R and the Ather Rizta.
The seven contenders from the various bike categories all vied for the coveted TOTM for the Bike of the Year and as the envelope was opened on a glitzy night in Pune, the localite from Baramati took top honours. The Aprilia RS 457 took top honours as the Italian firm’s first motorcycle delighted the jury, as it does the audiences. The podium was rounded off by the impressive Hero Xtreme 125R and the Ather Rizta.
It has been quite a stellar start for the Aprilia for its first made-in-India motorcycle. The India bike project has been going on for over half a decade but it is worth the wait. Aprilia’s quest to establish its presence in the sub-500 cc space has been quite a masterstroke of sorts. It has managed to evoke and meet the same quality standards of the Italian firm’s big bikes and yet the pricing is delicious and quite tempting. Even nearly a year after the prices were first announced, the RS 457’s asking price of ₹4.20 lakh makes it quite a good option.
And it is just the start for the 457 platform. The Tuono 457 had already made its debut at EICMA 2024 and we will be getting astride the naked this month. Prices of the Tuono are definitely going to be lower than the RS. We expect it to cost ₹4 lakh (ex-showroom). However, if an introductory sub-₹4 lakh price tag is slapped on to the naked, then the KTM 390 Duke will have quite a bit to worry about.
