For the new year, the middleweight duo just got lighter, more comfortable and sleeker.
After leaving us wide-jawed with the BMW F 450 GS at EICMA 2024, BMW Motorrad has us, at least the author here, gasping for some air. The Bavarians just released images of the 2025 BMW F 900 XR and F 900 R with updates that aim to make the middleweight bikes more comfortable to ride, and at the same time more exciting as well.
For starters both the bikes have become 3 kg lighter, which was achieved by updating the frame and pairing that with new, 1.8 kg lighter cast alloy wheels. The lithium-ion battery is also revised to make it 0.8 kg lighter. And rounding off these improvements are new chunkier 43 mm USD fork that gets adjustable damping, rebound and compression damping and spring preload as standard.
Acting as the stressed member to the chassis, the 105 bhp strong 895 cc inline-2 engine is now homologated for Euro5+ emission norms. But the ECU has been tweaked, especially with the dynamic ride mode in the traction control department. Additionally, ABS Pro will now also be available as standard along with cornering-controlled ABS, drag torque control, and a slip-and-assist clutch.
BMW has tweaked the ergonomics too to make both bikes feel more comfortable to ride and purpose-driven. On the F 900 XR, the semi-faring design is now sharper which helps improve its aerodynamics. Plus with a redesigned wind deflector that helps reduce wind pressure on the rider and new knuckle guards, this middleweight sport tourer bike should feel like a breeze when doing long-distance touring.
With the F 900 R, the rider triangle has been slightly tweaked for a more focused stance. The weight carries over to the front, and this was achieved by pushing the footpeg a few millimetres back and slightly forward set handlebars.
Lastly, the BMW F 900 XR will now be available in three variants. The base will be available in just Racing Red, while the mid-Triple Black variant will be available in Blackstorme Metallic, while the top Sport variant has a nice Lightweight Racing blue metallic shade. Similarly, the BMW F 900 R is also available in three variants with the same options, except for the base variant, which is available in a Snapper Rocks Blue metallic shade. Deliveries for the new range of 2025 BMW F 900 XR and F 900 R will start from next year onwards, and both should land in India sometime after their global launch.
