Skoda Auto India is preparing to launch the second-generation Kodiaq SUV on April 17, 2025. The new model, which made its first public appearance in the country at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Expo, replaces the long-running first-generation Kodiaq that was on sale for over seven years. The new Kodiaq is based on the Volkswagen Group’s MQB EVO platform. It also underpins several new-generation vehicles across the group’s global portfolio, including its cousin, the Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line.
Compared to its predecessor, the new Kodiaq is 61 mm longer, measuring 4,758 mm in total. However, other dimensions, including its 2,791 mm wheelbase, remain unchanged. The longer body translates into a roomier cabin, especially for third-row occupants, and contributes to a significant improvement in luggage capacity. With all three rows of seats in place, the new Kodiaq offers 340 litres of boot space—70 litres more than before.
Design-wise, the SUV adopts Skoda’s latest ‘Modern Solid’ styling language, which was first previewed with the Vision 7S concept in 2022. The result is a more rounded and softened appearance, while still retaining the brand’s characteristic boldness. The India-spec Kodiaq will come with 18-inch alloy wheels, though wheel designs and other exterior accents will vary between the two available trims—L&K and Sportline. Unlike the global model, which is offered in both five- and seven-seat configurations, the Indian version will only be available as a seven-seater.
Inside the cabin, the new Kodiaq sees a major overhaul. The dashboard layout is now nearly identical to what will be seen in the upcoming Skoda Superb, featuring a minimalist yet premium design. At the centre of the cabin is a 13-inch touchscreen infotainment system that now consolidates many of the car’s functions. This is complemented by a 10-inch ‘Virtual Cockpit’ digital instrument cluster. Another standout feature is the debut of Skoda’s ‘Smart Dials’—three rotary controllers with built-in digital displays located on the centre console. The two outer dials are assigned to control the three-zone climate system, while the central dial is customisable and can be used to adjust various functions like drive modes, volume, or navigation.
In a functional change, the gear selector has been moved to the steering column, a move that not only modernises the cabin but also frees up space on the centre console for improved storage and accessibility. Skoda also claims enhanced headroom for passengers in the third row, further improving comfort in what has traditionally been a tighter space in many three-row SUVs.
Under the hood, the India-spec Kodiaq continues with the proven 2.0-litre EA888 four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. This unit delivers 201 bhp and 320 Nm of peak torque and is paired with a 7-speed DSG (dual-clutch) automatic transmission. There will be no diesel or hybrid powertrains at launch, keeping the focus solely on petrol, in line with Skoda’s current India strategy.
While official pricing will be revealed at the launch event, estimates suggest that the new Kodiaq will be priced starting upwards of ₹40 lakh (ex-showroom). At this price point, it will compete with other premium three-row SUVs such as the Toyota Fortuner, MG Gloster, and Jeep Meridian.
