The new aesthetic treatment has amped up the retro quotient of the XSR125.

Yamaha has launched the 2025 iteration of the XSR125 in Japan. The bike has not undergone any mechanical or hardware upgrades at all. Instead, Yamaha has decided to amp up the retro quotient of the 125 cc roadster with new colour options, which now make it look as posh and premium as its elder sibling, the Yamaha XSR900.

So, as part of that agenda, the 2025 Yamaha XSR125 in Japan has been launched with two new shades – Light Bluish Gray Metallic and Very Dark Orange Metallic. The former has a nice, sophisticated silver-inspired finish that enhances the muscular proportions of the bike. The latter has a nice deep, glossy brown colour with gold decals, which gives it a nice vintage touch. Additionally, for 2025, the XSR125 also gained a new low seat accessory kit, which helped bring down the seat from its standard 810 mm height to 780 mm. Furthermore, Yamaha has also reduced the thickness of the seat foam by 10 mm and has lowered the rear suspension linkage, which further helps bring the seat lower by 20 mm.

Beside these new colour options the Yamaha XSR125 has remained the same from before.

Beyond these new additions, the Yamaha XSR125 is the same as before. The body panels haven’t been altered or tweaked. It continues to be powered by a 124 cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that is good for 14.8 bhp and 12 Nm. The engine comes paired to a six-speed gearbox, with a slip-and-assist clutch. Feature-wise, the Yamaha XSR125 gets a humble LCD instrument cluster, without any sort of smartphone connectivity. However, it does get an LED headlight and tail light unit, but the indicators are again bulb units.

The Yamaha XSR125 has been one of those bikes that we have wanted for the Indian market for quite some time now. But instead of the XSR125, we got the Yamaha FZ-X. While the latter has its fair share of retro appeal, plus it is also powered by a bigger 150 cc engine – but the overall design is not as evocative as the XSR125 manages to pull off.
