As Apple celebrates its 25th anniversary in India, the first Apple Store, named Apple BKC, opens in Mumbai. With 100 employees fluent in over 20 languages, the store is set to make a significant impact. Starting Tuesday, April 18, Apple BKC will host "Today at Apple" sessions called "Mumbai Rising," offering unique experiences for customers.
"At Apple, our customers are at the center of everything we do, and our teams are excited to celebrate this wonderful moment with them as we open our first retail store in India," said Deirdre O'Brien, Apple's Senior Vice President of Retail.
Powered by 100% renewable energy, the store boasts a handcrafted timber ceiling that extends beyond its distinctive geometry. Each tile consists of 408 timber pieces, forming 31 modules per 1,000 tiles, and 450,000 individual elements are assembled in New Delhi. A colossal LED screen designed for "Today at Apple" sessions can accommodate over 50 people, and the advanced speaker system is concealed behind a fabric wall behind the screen.
The two stone walls, sourced from Rajasthan, and a 14-meter-long stainless steel staircase connecting the ground level to the cantilevered mezzanine, add to the store's captivating design. Apple BKC truly embodies Mumbai's dynamic culture, providing a welcoming space for connection and community.
"India has such a beautiful culture and incredible energy, and we're excited to build on our long-standing history—supporting our customers, investing in local communities, and working together to build a better future with innovations that serve humanity," added Tim Cook, Apple's CEO.
