The 2025 Auto Expo allowed automakers to show off some remarkable advancements in automotive innovation and technology, drawing significant attention from industry leaders and auto enthusiasts alike. BYD's exhibition space particularly distinguished itself through its sophisticated presentation and innovative displays. A highlight of BYD's showcase was the introduction of the U8 SUV, presented under its premium YangWang sub-brand, which has won Acko Drive's Best of Show at Auto Expo 2025 Best Technology Showcase award.
Notably, this full-size luxury SUV combines traditional proportions with contemporary design elements, featuring a distinctive pixelated grille pattern. Its technological advancements extend to its interface systems, featuring an advanced digital cockpit. This includes a 12.8-inch central display complemented by expansive 23.6-inch screens for both the driver's information display and front passenger entertainment, according to global specifications.
The U8's interior appointments reflect luxury, incorporating premium leather surfaces and an advanced 22-speaker audio system. A notable technical feature of the Off-road Master Edition is its water navigation capabilities, facilitated by an integrated snorkel system, designed specifically for emergencies.
What grabbed people's attention at Auto Expo 2025 was BYD's demonstrations of the YangWang U8 spinning 360 degrees on the spot; a manoeuvre known as a tank turn. It's an unusual trick for a car, and if this feature does make it to any production vehicle on Indian roads, it's sure to make people stare.
Other contenders in the running for our Best Technology Showcase title were the TVS Jupiter CNG and Android Auto console experience, Honda's Activa e: battery swapping station, the interior tech of the MG M9, Mercedes-Benz's MB.OS running on the Concept CLA, and BYD's own Sealion 6 plug-in hybrid.
The Acko Drive Best of Show at Auto Expo 2025, an annual tradition established by Editor-in-Chief Siddharth Vinayak Patankar, celebrates excellence in the Indian automotive industry. For 2025, the jury included seasoned auto journalist Renuka Kirpalani; Auto Today Editor Yogendra Pratap Singh; Flywheel Editor Hani Mustafa; Acko Drive Editor-in-Chief Siddharth Vinayak Patankar; and the Acko Drive editorial team.
