From the debut of a brand new flagship superbike to age-old rivalries seeing new dimensions.
While the Indian two-wheeler industry was less active last week, some global launches kept us busy and intrigued. However, a major electric two-wheeler manufacturer received quite the attention this month, and it was for all the wrong reasons:
This week saw Yamaha unveil its new sportbike, the R9. Although the flagship R-badged bike has been revealed to its global audience, its launch in India is still under speculation. Built on the same platform as its naked counterpart, the MT-09, the Yamaha R9 differs with a stiffer and lighter chassis, more features, and a sleek and sharp body design that can be traced back to the marque's MotoGP machine. For all the details, head to the link here.
We have only spotted test mules of the KTM 390 Adventure R and Enduro R in India. Recently, the upcoming KTM 250 Adventure was also spotted on the old Pune-Mumbai highway. While the test mule showcased a design similar to the upcoming KTM 390 Adventure, there were a few differences, mostly limited to its features. For all the details, head to the link here.
In what can be described as a tectonic shift in the Indian two-wheeler market, Honda overtook Hero MotoCorp in retail sales last month.. Based on Vahan's latest sales report, the Japanese two-wheeler giant retailed 23 per cent more two-wheelers in the country than Hero. However, in the long run, Hero MotoCorp is still miles ahead of Honda. How so? Tap the link here to learn more.
The Triumph Trident 660 received its first mid-life update this week. Aside from gaining three brand new colour options, Triumph has also gone ahead and made the bike a proper reckoner in the segment. So, from getting a six-axis IMU to new premium Showa-sourced suspension, and a semi-digital instrument console with Bluetooth connectivity as standard – a lot of significant changes have been made. Unfortunately, Triumph has kept the powertrain same as before, which isn't a deal breaker. However, for all the details tap the link here.
Ola Receives Show Cause
Controversy's favourite child, Bhavish Aggarwal, was at the centre of attention this week. After an ugly public spat with comedian Kunal Kamra, which led to its shares tanking by 9 per cent, the Bengaluru-based electric two-wheeler brand was served with a show-cause notice by the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) over the rising cases of issues faced by customers. The company has 15 days to respond to it. To know what charges the CCPA has brought to Ola, tap the link here.
