The latest initiative is mainly aimed at last mile delivery service operators.
Greaves Electric Mobility Limited (GEML) has partnered with Indofast Energy to introduce battery-swapping technology for electric two-wheelers under the Ampere brand umbrella. These swappable batteries are targeted towards delivery and ride-sharing operators, thus will be mainly used for commercial purposes, to begin with.
The announcement was made at the showcase of a tweaked Ampere Magnus Neo with swappable battery tech, which is now called Magnus SW.S. It continues to be powered by a 2.4 kW electric motor that can carry a payload capacity of 151 kg. With the batteries fully charged, the Magnus SW.S can also cover the same 85-90 km distance in Eco mode. Lastly, it also comes with IoT connectivity for fleet management applications. While we are yet to confirm the price of the new Magnus SW.S, the standard Magnus Neo was launched last year at ₹79,999 (ex-showroom, Delhi)

The batteries can be swapped at Indofast Energy's swapping stations, thus eliminating the need for lengthy charging stops. Indofast Energy is a joint venture that is equally owned by Indian Oil and Sun Mobility, and has been in the business of establishing swappable battery stations across the country, but most of them are currently concentrated in the northern region of the country.

The latest initiative with Greaves Electric Mobility aims to serve gig economy riders who travel more than 100 kilometers daily and need to minimise downtime between rides. Indofast Energy is further working on expanding its battery swapping network to make it more accessible to commercial riders. “Ampere Magnus SW.S is a fantastic addition to our suite of offerings especially for commercial applications. This vehicle will be available not only for fleets but also for driver cum gig operators through Ampere’s network. We are looking to deploy 50,000+ vehicles in the next year via our fleet partners and driver-owners,” concluded Rajat Malhan, Senior Vice President, Indofast Energy.
