Ampere’s premium scooter looks quite stylish
The Ampere Nexus is a new electric scooter launched by Ampere. It comes in 2 variants and is priced with an introductory offer of ₹1.09 lakh for the lower variant. It's the company’s first premium offering and competes with scooters like Ather Rizta, TVS iQube S, and Ola S1 Pro.
The prices for the Ampere Nexus, start at ₹ 1.10 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the base EX variant and go up to ₹ 1.20 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the top-spec ST variant (introductory).
The Ampere Nexus, inspired by the Arctic Tern bird, has a stylish design with a unique dual-tone colour scheme and clean lines. The headlight unit also has inspiration from the same forming X-like design which appears like the wings.
It is available in four eye-catching colours: Zanskar Aqua, a refreshing teal blue like calm ocean water, Lunar White, which looks timeless and elegant like a classic colour, Steel Grey, which is a sophisticated metallic shade for a modern look and, lastly, there is Indian Red, which has a bold and fiery head-turner look.
The Ampere Nexus gets a 3 kWh lithium phosphate battery paired with a 3.3 kW mid-mounted electric motor. It offers a peak power of 4 kW and a top speed of 93 kmph.
Along with this the Ampere Nexus claims a range of 136 km (IDC), but real-world usage might be around 110-115 km. It takes 3.3 hours to fully charge using a standard 15A charger, with no fast charging option.
The top-of-the-line ST variant has a 7-inch fully digital TFT display. This comes with auto-brightness for optimal viewing in all conditions. It also offers smartphone connectivity for a more integrated riding experience.
The EX variant features a slightly smaller 6-inch LCD display with similar functionalities like turn-by-turn navigation and call/SMS alerts.
Ampere claims to have the strongest panels mounted on a quite rigid chassis. The Ampere Nexus tries to meet a balance between a sturdy build and a smooth ride.
This rigid frame is further complemented by a telescopic fork suspension system in the front wheel. At the rear, dual shock absorbers work in tandem to absorb bumps and irregularities on the road.
The Nexus comes equipped with a single disc brake at the front and a drum brake at the rear. It does not get ABS but there is a combi braking system on offer for safety.
Overall, the Ampere Nexus is a new entrant in the premium electric scooter segment in India. It offers a good range, decent performance, and modern features like a TFT display and smartphone connectivity. How good will it be in the real world remains to be seen. Hopefully, we will get to ride it soon.
