Wozniak was in Mexico to address a business forum in the Santa Fe district.
Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple Inc., has been hospitalised following a stroke in Mexico City, according to a Reuters report. Wozniak, the mastermind behind Apple's early technical innovation, was in Mexico to address a business forum in the Santa Fe district when he experienced what is described as a severe case of vertigo, a condition not considered life-threatening.
The 73-year-old Wozniak, who remains on Apple's payroll, was scheduled to speak at the event at 4:20 pm local time. Post his address, Wozniak conveyed to his wife that he felt unwell, which led to his hospitalisation.
A Silicon Valley icon, Wozniak founded Apple Computer in 1976 alongside Steve Jobs, who died in October 2011 after a prolonged battle with pancreatic cancer. Wozniak's seminal creations, the Apple I and Apple II computers, were mainstays of Apple's lineup into the late '80s.
Though Wozniak stepped back from active involvement with Apple in the same period, his influence remains indelible. Jobs, after a hiatus from Apple in the mid-'80s, returned to the fold in 1996 following Apple's acquisition of NeXT. Transitioning from an advisor to then-CEO Gil Amelio to interim CEO after Amelio's departure, Jobs held the reins until August 2011 when he resigned due to health issues, appointing Tim Cook as his successor. Cook continues to steer Apple as its CEO to this day.
