This design is expected to be featured on the non-Pro variants of the iPhone 16.

Leaked cases of the upcoming Apple iPhone 16 models have revealed a vertical camera arrangement, similar to the camera array first seen on the iPhone X and XS models. This design is expected to be featured on the non-Pro variants of the iPhone 16, which are likely to retain the core camera hardware from the iPhone 15 Pro, except for the telephoto lens. The new arrangement could improve spatial video capture for the Apple Vision Pro, which utilises the ultra-wide and primary cameras.

The LED flash may be incorporated within the pill-shaped camera island on the non-Pro iPhone 16 models. This news follows leaked cases for the iPhone 16 Pro models, which showed realigned camera capture buttons. The Pro variants are expected to feature new camera sensors, possibly larger in size, for better low-light performance. A pressure-sensitive capture button is also rumoured, making the iPhone more suitable for professional use, a feature Apple has been promoting since the introduction of LOG video support on the iPhone 15 Pro models.

The iPhone 16 lineup is also expected to include the "action button" that was first introduced on the iPhone 15 Pro models, with the Pro iPhones receiving an additional capture button. These devices are expected to launch in September, powered by the A18 Pro chip and its non-Pro variant, offering improved performance capabilities.

Apple is preparing for the unveiling of iOS 18 at WWDC24 on June 10, which is expected to bring significant updates to the iPhone operating system, including visual and user interface changes, as well as the integration of on-device and cloud-based generative AI capabilities. The company is reportedly in discussions with Google and OpenAI to license their foundational models and has been acquiring generative AI startups like Darwin AI over the past year. Apple has also been licensing content from news outlets to train its own models, indicating a focus on AI-driven development.
