It is a major update to the iPhone 15 series and enhances the iPhone 15 Pro camera system.
Apple has released iOS 17.2, introducing the Journal app and spatial video capabilities. This major update coincides with the iPhone 15 series and enhances the iPhone 15 Pro camera system. It enables spatial video viewing on the Apple Vision Pro spatial computer. Concurrently, Apple has launched iPadOS 17.2 and macOS 14.2 Sonoma.
The Journal app differs from third-party offerings like Day One, utilising OS-level integration for suggestions based on app activity. It can prompt users to log trips with photos and reflections, create entries after workouts, or note thoughts on podcast episodes. Third-party apps can also connect to this suggestion API. Apple emphasises the app's end-to-end encryption, with data stored solely on the device and syncable to iCloud.
The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max's action button now supports quick translation for spoken phrases, facilitating conversations between speakers of different languages.
Furthermore, Apple is extending Qi2 charging support to iPhone 13 and 14 models. Qi2 certified chargers will match MagSafe's 15W wireless charging speeds.
Spatial videos, captured in 3D, are viewable in the Photos app on Apple Vision Pro. Siri now offers access to health data, and Apple Music, Messages, and Weather apps receive additional features. The auto-fill function utilises on-device machine learning for completing PDFs and forms.
Additionally, watchOS 10.2 is available for the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2, enabling Siri to provide sleep and exercise summaries.
