Apple unveiled its latest M2 Pro and M2 Max silicon for MacBook Pro laptops earlier this year.

Apple is poised to push back the release of its next generation M3 chipsets for Mac devices until 2024, according to a report by Bloomberg.

The US tech giant unveiled its latest M2 Pro and M2 Max silicon for MacBook Pro laptops earlier this year. It also launched a revamped Mac mini desktop with an M2 Pro chip. Apple also launched the M2 Ultra chipset which is being offered in the Mac Studio and Mac Pro.

However, Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman said Apple has hit delays in updating its portfolio with M3 chips, which are expected to adopt TSMC’s 3nm manufacturing process for improved performance and power efficiency.

Mr Gurman previously forecast M3 could debut in new iMac all-in-one desktops as soon as October 2022. But he now says 13-inch, 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models will not arrive until 2024.

The smaller 13-inch MacBook Pro is tipped to use a base M3 chip, while its larger siblings will offer M3 Pro and M3 Max variants. Analysts say 3nm has potential to bring significant gains in speed and battery life for Apple's notebook range.

Mr Gurman also predicted that initial demand for apps on Apple's upcoming AR/VR headset will trail other platforms like iPhone and Mac, given the niche appeal and high pricing of hardware and software.
