Apple's new CarPlay is coming with iOS 26. It will bring a fresh look, smarter calls, better messages, and more useful widgets on your car's infotainment screen.
Apple has revealed a big overhaul of its CarPlay in-car system. It is set to arrive with iOS 26 later this year.
Revealed at the annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), the update promises a fresh aesthetic and a host of new features designed to enhance connectivity and safety for drivers across the globe.
The most striking change is a complete visual redesign, aligning CarPlay with the new "Liquid Glass" look introduced across iOS 26. This translucent, dynamic interface will see app icons and controls appear more vibrant and interactive, adapting to both light and dark modes.
Crucially, the refreshed design ensures a more cohesive experience between your iPhone and your car's infotainment display, with elements appearing to "pop" from the screen.
Drivers will benefit from several practical improvements. Incoming call notifications have been streamlined into a compact view, ensuring they don't obstruct crucial navigation details.
Messaging functionality also sees an upgrade, introducing support for "Tapbacks" (quick emoji reactions) and the ability to pin important conversations, allowing for easier, less distracting communication on the go.
The introduction of widgets is another welcome addition, providing glanceable information such as weather updates, calendar reminders, and even smart home controls directly on the CarPlay screen.
Furthermore, "Live Activities" from your iPhone will now extend to CarPlay, enabling real-time updates like flight statuses or delivery progress to be viewed safely within the dashboard.
This comprehensive update aims to make CarPlay more intuitive and integrated, bolstering its position as a leading in-car experience for millions of users.
