Ashok Leyland, the Indian commercial vehicle flagship of the Hinduja Group, on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PT Pindad, Indonesia's state-owned defence and industrial equipment manufacturer. The agreement was formalised at Pindad's headquarters in Bandung on Tuesday.
The collaboration will focus on the joint development and production of electric buses and defence vehicles engineered to fulfil Indonesia's mobility requirements and national security specifications. The partnership leverages Ashok Leyland's proficiency in commercial electric vehicle platforms and defence mobility solutions alongside Pindad's engineering competencies and domestic manufacturing infrastructure.

"Ashok Leyland has a longstanding legacy of delivering reliable commercial and defence mobility solutions worldwide. Our subsidiary, Switch Mobility has now developed a wide range of electric buses with global appeal. Our partnership with Pindad allows us to jointly develop products uniquely suited to Indonesia’s terrain, infrastructure, and operational needs," Amandeep Singh, President – International Operations, Defence, LCV & PSB, Ashok Leyland, said in a statement.

The agreement corresponds with Indonesia's initiatives to advance sustainable transportation systems and modernise defence capabilities through energy-efficient mobility solutions and domestically manufactured defence platforms.
Amandeep Singh stated that Ashok Leyland's subsidiary, Switch Mobility, has developed a range of electric buses with global appeal. He noted that the partnership with Pindad will enable the development of products specifically suited to Indonesia's terrain, infrastructure, and operational requirements.
