The Pothole+ will send alerts on the scooter’s dashboard when using navigation for potholes, broken road section, uneven surfaces, and even speed breakers.

Ather Energy has announced the roll out of the new Pothole+ Alert feature on its electric scooter range. The new feature will be available on Gen 2 and above e-scooters, including the Ather 450 Apex, 450X, and Rizta Z. The new feature alerts riders to incoming potholes, broken road road patches, uneven roads and speed breakers while navigating. The company says it uses road intelligence built from data generated by Ather's connected scooter fleet.

Speaking about the rollout, Tarun Mehta, Co-founder and CEO, said the feature was nine years in the making. He said, "The challenge was never the idea. It was the data. You need lakhs of connected scooters riding the same roads before you have enough fleet intelligence to make something like this work. Today, we finally have that."

Ather says its scooters are equipped with onboard computers and connectivity, which enables the company to build large datasets over time. This data has helped the manufacturer develop the software-driven feature that will now be available for customers. The Pothole+ will send alerts on the scooter’s dashboard when using navigation for potholes, broken road section, uneven surfaces, and even speed breakers. Moreover, users with the Ather Halo smart helmet or a Bluetooth compatible helmet, will be able to hear the alert without taking their attention on the road.
