Ather Energy has adjusted the pricing of its Halo smart helmet, which was introduced earlier this year alongside the new Ather Rizta. Initially priced at ₹13,000 for the first 1,000 customers, with plans for a subsequent ₹2,000 increase, the company has now reduced the price to ₹10,000, offering a ₹3,000 discount. The price reduction may be due to the delay in the final product reaching the market.
Speaking of its noteworthy connectivity features, the Halo helmet incorporates two internal Harman Kardon speakers designed to provide audio without compromising the rider's awareness of ambient sounds, such as emergency vehicle sirens or traffic horns. When paired with a smartphone, the helmet enables hands-free calling as well.
The helmet's integration with Ather scooters allows riders to manage music playback and handle calls using the vehicle's switchgear. An innovative feature utilises internal sensors to automatically connect the helmet to the user's smartphone upon wear. The Halo's wireless charging capability purportedly offers a week-long battery life, and it can be conveniently charged within the underseat storage compartment of the new Rizta model using a compatible wireless charger.
While the Halo presents an array of smart features, its success in the market may ultimately depend on how riders prioritize these technological advancements against traditional safety considerations. The Halo only meets ISI and DOT certifications, which aren't quite as advanced and thoroughly regulated exercises when it comes to helmet safety ratings as much as ECE or the Japanese standards. Plus, the placement of the Connecticut module is rather suspect and possesses safety-related threats.
