Recognising the need for strong EV charging infrastructure, Ather Energy has expanded its fast-charging network to over 395 cities across India.
Ather Energy has announced that its riders now have access to more than 5,000 public fast chargers compatible with the Light Electric Combined Charging System (LECCS) connector. The network covers over 395 cities and comprises 3,675+ chargers operated directly by Ather Energy, along with 1,400+ from partner networks.
The infrastructure is placed across major metropolitan areas, tier 2 and tier 3 cities, and intercity routes to support both daily commuting and longer journeys. Key cities including Bengaluru, Pune, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Mumbai each host over 100 LECCS chargers, with Bengaluru exceeding 240.
States leading in availability include Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Gujarat. Smaller cities such as Nashik, Malappuram, and Indore feature 45+ chargers, while Kozhikode and Coimbatore have 65+ each. Internationally, Ather has established over 30 fast chargers in Nepal and Sri Lanka.
Ravneet Singh Phokela, Chief Business Officer of Ather Energy, stated that charging infrastructure remains essential for electric vehicle adoption. He highlighted ongoing investments in urban, highway, and intercity expansion over the past seven years, along with recent improvements to charger design. The expanded network and enhanced user experience aim to provide convenience for daily and longer trips.
Ather developed the LECCS connector for electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers, opening its intellectual property in 2021 to promote interoperability. The standard received Bureau of Indian Standards approval in 2023 and 2024.
Partners including Hero Vida, Matter, Bolt, Kazam, and EVamp have adopted LECCS, strengthening industry-wide compatibility. Ather Grid chargers are also integrated with Google Maps for easier location and navigation.
