Maruti Suzuki sold 181,630 units, a 3.25 per cent growth from July 2022's 175,916 units.
In July 2023, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, the country's leading car manufacturer, demonstrated a slight upturn in its domestic market performance. The company managed to sell a total of 181,630 units, marking a 3.25 per cent growth in comparison to the figures from July 2022, when they sold 175,916 units. While this growth might not be ground-breaking, it does show that Maruti Suzuki is holding its ground in a competitive market.
Breaking down the numbers for July 2023, domestic sales accounted for 154,685 units, while they managed to export 22,199 units. Interestingly, sales to other original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) stood at 4,746 units. This diversified approach to sales could be seen as a strategic move, ensuring that the company isn't overly reliant on a single avenue for revenue.
Zooming out to assess the performance for the April-July 2023 period, Maruti Suzuki sold 679,660 units, marking a 5.56 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2022. This steady growth over a longer time frame could indicate that the company is adapting well to market dynamics and managing to keep its products appealing to consumers.
Looking at specific segments, the passenger car category, including models like Maruti Suzuki Alto, Baleno, Swift, and more, faced a decline of 26.74 per cent in July 2023, selling 78,040 units in contrast to the 106,530 units sold in July 2022. This drop in sales might raise concerns about the competitiveness of Maruti Suzuki's passenger car line-up. It could be crucial for the company to revamp its offerings in this category to regain lost ground.
In a more promising turn, the SUV segment showcased remarkable growth, recording a staggering 166.63 per cent increase. With 62,049 units sold in July 2023, compared to 23,272 units in the same period last year, Maruti Suzuki's foray into SUVs seems to be paying off. The introduction of models like the Grand Vitara, Fronx, Jimny, and Invicto likely played a significant role in this success. This shift towards SUVs aligns well with the current market trend of increased SUV demand.
