In the first half of 2024, BMW Group India has demonstrated a robust performance, solidifying its position in the Indian luxury car market. The company reported a notable increase in sales, delivering a total of 7098 cars (including BMW and MINI) and 3614 motorcycles under the BMW Motorrad brand. This reflects a 21 per cent year-over-year growth in car sales, a feat driven by the popularity of BMW's SUVs, luxury class models, and electric vehicles (EVs). BMW Group India sold 6734 units, while its MINI brand contributed 364 units to the total.
BMW's electric vehicles continue to gain traction, with 397 units sold in the first six months of 2024. The BMW i7 emerged as the best-selling BMW EV, underscoring the rising demand for sustainable mobility among luxury car buyers. BMW Group India has crossed the milestone of 2000 EV deliveries, with the BMW iX being the most popular luxury EV in India, achieving over 1000 units sold to date.
The luxury class segment (including BMW 7 Series, BMW i7, BMW X7, and BMW XM) saw a growth of 17 per cent, contributing 18 per cent to BMW's total sales. The BMW X7 led this category in sales. SAVs, which accounted for 54 per cent of BMW's total sales, grew by 24 per cent, with the BMW X1 being the top performer with a 19 per cent share in sales. The BMW 3 Series was the highest-selling sedan with a 17 per cent share.
In contrast, Audi India sold 1431 units between April and June 2024. While this represents a 37 per cent increase compared to Q1 2024, it marks a 6 per cent decline from the same period in the previous year. Audi's sales have been affected by ongoing supply chain disruptions, which have improved since Q1 but continue to pose challenges.
