Increased exports and growing sales figures leaves Honda room to introduce enthusiast catering products in India.
Honda reported a stellar performance in March, with domestic sales skyrocketing by 81% year-on-year to a staggering 3,58,151 units. This impressive growth comes on the back of a strong showing in the previous year, where the company dispatched 1,97,542 units in March 2023.
The good news doesn't stop there. Exports also witnessed a significant jump, increasing to 28,304 units from last month 14,460 units in March 2023. This translates to a total surge of 82% in overall sales for Honda Motorcycles in March.
Looking at the bigger picture, Honda’s performance for the entire financial year (FY 2023-24) has been positive as well. The company recorded a 12% year-on-year growth, selling a total of 48,93,522 units compared to 43,50,967 units in FY23.
In its journey last year, Honda surpassed a major milestone by delivering over 6 crore two-wheelers in India while the 1 crore sales mark had been crossed in 2012. Three years later, the company crossed the 2 crore mark, followed by another 1 crore milestone in just three years (2017). The journey from 3 crore to 4 crore sales was the fastest yet, achieved in a single year.
Talking about upcoming product, the biggest launch of 2024 will be the introduction of the Activa electric scooter with which it will commence its EV journey in India. With a focus on the Indian consumer market, Honda enthusiasts are left awaiting the launch of the recently unveiled Honda Sahara 300, a compelling adventure motorcycle introduced in Brazil. While Honda caters to the premium ADV segment in India with offerings like the Africa Twin, XL750 Trans Alp, and NX500, there's a gap in the affordable segment. The existing CB200X falls short of a true adventure touring experience. The Honda Sahara 300, with its mid-range positioning, could be a strategic introduction to capture this growing market space.
