Hero continues to miss out on this segment, again.
While motorcycle sales remained stagnant in May 2025, sales of scooters increased by 7.1 per cent. Here are the top 5 models that led the sales charge last month, as per the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers report.
The Honda Activa continues to rule the scooter segment. While the SIAM report does not specify as to how many Activa 110 and Activa 125s were sold – Honda cumulatively managed to retail 1,90,713 units nonetheless. As much as it sounds, on a year-on-year basis, sales fell by 11.85 per cent last month compared to the 2,16,352 units Honda retailed last year in the same time period. This drop in sales came despite Honda ramping up production of the scooter wherein it manufactured 2,27,768 units last month, compared to 2,15,122 units in May, 2024.

While cumulative sales of both the Jupiter 110 and Jupiter 125 were less than half of what the Activa duo achieved for the company – for TVS it still managed to post a healthy 28.7 per cent growth. This growth in popularity for the brand primarily stems from the slew of updates that TVS continues to make on these two scooters. The Jupiter 110 in its latest iteration looks quite futuristic, while the new variant of the Jupiter 125 that TVS launched earlier this month looks quite premium. Additionally, this increase in sales also comes from increase in production wherein TVS produced 1,04,117 scooters last month, compared to 91,127 units it manufactured in the same period, last year.
Sales of the Suzuki Access increased by 16.92 per cent in May 2025 against the 64,812 units Suzuki sold last year in the same month. Interestingly, Suzuki manufactured 75,608 units last month, so the additional 170 units came up from pending orders from the month before. Additionally, on a year-to-date basis as well, the Suzuki Access 125’s sales increased by 11.3 per cent wherein 1,40,885 units were retailed against the 1,26,772 units Suzuki retailed in April and May 2024.

While the SIAM report does not specify as to how many Dio 110s and 125s were sold last month, cumulatively, Honda retailed 26,220 units. Despite this steady popularity, sales of the Honda Dio dropped by 9.71 per cent last month, despite production of the scooter increasing by a healthy 29.45 per cent. Moreover, on a year-to-date basis, sales of the Dio dropped further by 10.43 per cent with 46,775 Dios sold in between April and May, compared to the 52,223 units, Honda sold during the same period, last year.
The TVS Ntorq 125 might have been the fifth most sold scooter in India in May 2025, its sales have dropped by 13.84 per cent, compared to the 29,253 units TVS retailed in May 2024. Similarly, in between April-May, 2025, TVS sold 50,588 Ntorqs, which might sound healthy, but it was 15.21 per cent less than what TVS retailed in the same period last year.
