Maruti Suzuki India Limited has returned to the top position in the Indian car market after facing stiff competition from rivals. The company sold a total of 220,894 units in October 2025, which marks its highest-ever monthly sales volume. The domestic sales reached 180,675 units, also an all-time high for the company.
The market performance shows that Maruti Suzuki has moved ahead of competitors in the past four months. From April to October 2025, the company sold 1,299,629 units compared to 1,269,852 units sold during the same period in the previous financial year. This represents a growth of 2.34 per cent year-on-year.

In the beginning of the financial year 2024-25, Maruti Suzuki held a market share of 40.25 per cent. In April 2025, the market share fell to 39.44 per cent. However, by October 2025, the company recovered to a market share of 43.44 per cent in the domestic market.
The recovery comes as Maruti Suzuki faces competition from three main rivals. Tata Motors holds the second position with 74,705 units sold in October 2025, translating to 13.61 per cent market share. Mahindra and Mahindra ranks third with 66,800 units and 12.17 per cent share. Hyundai Motor India stands at fourth position with 65,045 units and 11.85 per cent market share.

In the full financial year 2024-25, Maruti Suzuki held a market share of 40.25 per cent with 1,671,559 units sold. Hyundai Motor India had a share of 13.46 per cent with 559,149 units, whilst Mahindra held 12.34 per cent of the market with 512,626 units.
The October 2025 figures show movement in the market rankings. Tata Motors moved to second position in the month, surpassing both Mahindra and Hyundai. The festive season and recent goods and services tax changes have driven sales across the industry.
Maruti Suzuki's utility vehicle segment contributed 77,571 units in October, up from 70,644 units in the same month last year. The compact segment, which includes models such as Baleno, Swift, WagonR, and Dzire, sold 76,143 units compared to 65,948 units in October 2024. The mini segment, comprising Alto and S-Presso, saw sales of 9,067 units against 10,687 units a year earlier.
Partho Banarjee, Senior Executive Officer - Marketing & Sales, said, "The share of SUVs in our overall sales were around 26 per cent, and we have seen good movement in the segment."
The big surprise was the Fronx which sold 28000 units and the company says that had it more production capacity, it would have done more numbers.

Exports from Maruti Suzuki stood at 31,304 units in October 2025, whilst sales to other original equipment manufacturers reached 8,915 units. From April to October 2025, the company exported 238,763 units and supplied 67,778 units to other OEMs.

The company's performance comes as the Indian car market continues to see competition rise. Mahindra has increased its market share compared to the full financial year 2024-25, whilst Hyundai has seen its share decline. The shift reflects changing consumer preferences towards utility vehicles and the impact of recent tax policy changes.
Partho Banarjee further said that, "We have had a separate customer base coming to the showrooms and that's good for business. It's good to see this new set of buyers and especially ones who want to upgrade from a bike to a car."
Maruti Suzuki's highest-ever monthly sales in October indicate the company has managed to consolidate its position in the market. The strong performance over the first four months of the financial year 2025-26 suggests momentum will continue through the year.
