Brazil is Bajaj’s biggest market in the Latin American region.
Bajaj Auto has announced that it will be setting up a new manufacturing plant in Brazil. The new factory will be Bajaj Auto’s first manufacturing facility outside India and this indicates how important a market Latin America is for the Indian two-wheeler giant. The new plan will be set up by its wholly-owned arm, Bajaj Do Brasil. The Bajaj Brazil factory will have an initial production facility of 20,000 units per annum. It will be up and running by 2024 and will be based in Manus Special Economic Zone in the northern part of the country.
Bajaj Auto is India’s largest two-wheeler exporter and in fact, exports contribute more to its sales than domestic sales. Bajaj is currently present in over 90 countries across the world and is also the market leader in many nations. The new facility will not only help the brand strengthen its presence in Latin America but also help in reducing costs of its products. Apart from Bajaj motorcycles, the new Brazil plant might also be used to assemble KTM bikes for the Brazilian market. Hero MotoCorp already has a manufacturing facility in Latin America with a plant located in Colombia.
